is actually being the bona-fide owner of all 4 computers on our wi-fi network, and getting this message:
even though I've allowed sharing on every drive on every device, even though I've enabled network discovery everywhere, even though I've googled until I have blisters on my 2 typing fingers, etc., etc.......and I just can't get in.?ÿ "Windows Help and Support" doesn't.
Are you using Windows Home or Pro or ultimate...etc.etc.?
And have you allowed the network router/firewall policies/protocols for your network be updated and tuned to the newer software firmware patches?
Just curious. Former career-oriented questions.?ÿ ?ÿ
These days windows continuously seems to be in update mode, and drive sharing is generally not a secure practice unless you're behind the secure network firewall and setup in AD with windows server controlling access and flow.
Wow. I guess I shouldn't have stopped drinking coffee. It allows too much time to type, sorry.?ÿ
?ÿ
Also.
Go to file explorer,?ÿ and right click the drives and select security,?ÿ the click edit, and make sure you're allowed or allowing the listed users access and read write ability too.
?ÿ
I'm going to start drinking coffee again or get back into IT..... ????ÿ
.
On my home network the only way my computers with different Win versions can share files is to write them to the XP machine and another computer read from there.
It's probably not very secure, but the path to the outside is through two routers, which should reduce probing.
All PCs Win10 pro.?ÿ So I have 4 PCs on wi-fi network.?ÿ A,B,C & D.?ÿ I can access AC: from B, C, & D thru the network.?ÿ The C: drives on B, C, &?ÿ D all have identical sharing/permission settings with AC:, yet get the?ÿ
When I try to access C: from A on B, C, or D.?ÿ WTF?
Had to add "Everyone" to the list of shares.?ÿ Jeez.?ÿ
I still hate microsoft, though....
I had an ad hoc network at home in the 2000s. It worked great. Then one day it just for no reason randomly started refusing access to certain computers.
never did figure it out and now we only have one computer, a network printer which works, and an iPad so it is no longer needed.
on the hp printers I figured out DON??T INSTALL THEIR SOFTWARE. That solved a lot of problems. Scanning to a usb flash drive also solved a huge headache of scanning then trying to figure out why it refuses to show up on the computer it is connected to.
Effin Microsoft.?ÿ Had such a headache wireless network printing (HP of course) with the windows machines at my house.?ÿ Then my wife gets an iPad.?ÿ I thought this would just add more to the headache.?ÿ Except that I didn't have to do anything.?ÿ With Apple I did literally nothing and it just connects and prints perfectly.
@jitterboogie Sorry, man - I didn't go back and read the edit you made to your post.?ÿ Figgered it out all by ownself.?ÿ Only took about two hours..................
