Well out with the OLD Sokkia GSR1700CSX GPS

And In with the new ...
have just received 3 Leica GPS GS 14 UHF Receivers and
will be controlling these units with carlson surveyor plus
running SurvCe 5.04

Under RTK base setup there are many types of messages well
to many to be blunt

RTCM and CMR endless .....
Leica
Leica 4G

So i pick Leica being leica gear and UHF channel 1 of 0 thru 16 choices
38400 baud picked maybe a slower rate will be easyier on the base battery.

and i get a message back from SurvCe 5.04 is as follows

SET RTK MESSAGE REJECTED
& Next
ERROR IN BASE CONFIGURTION

Yea tried RTCM CMR ...... variations to no joy.

Any Pointers from Leica GS14 & Carlson SurvCe Users on the above error messages

Next regarding frequencys available are 0 thru 16 what would these be in UHF ie
460.000 mhz ..... so on. I use our 1 watt satels 3Asd little radios to check
anyone is on our frequency we wish to use by looking at the RX TX and CD LEDS for activity
and also as a 1 watt repeater ``nice`` .

Thanks

Pete

According to Carlson, SurvCE 5.xx and the Leica GS14 are compatible. I have called Carlson on numerous occasions to ask what configurations are compatible and I literally get a different answer everytime I call. As of now, I have only been able to get a GS14 connected to a VRS/RTN network using the GS14 SIM Configuration with a Surveyor 2. I have been unable to get the GS14 to work as a network rover with the use of a hotspot coming into the controller or to work correctly as a Base and Rover though the internal radios with the Surveyor 2.

That being said, I can get it to work but I have to use Carlson onboard the CS15 Field Controller so I can configure both the bluetooth and the radios correctly through Smartworx Viva before pulling the settings in Carlson.

If you find another way let me know. I have spent tons of time with it.

This thread reminds me once again why I made the personal decision years ago to buy the sensor, the data collector and the processing software all with the same color of paint. There is only one finger in the pie that way instead of up to three companies pointing fingers. YMMV.

Wanted to add, I don't mean to imply your choice is bad or Carlson is bad, BUT for me the frustration of trying to get various components from various manufacturers to play nice together just wasn't something I wanted to deal with anymore. I have been a big advocate for many years of picking a brand and sticking with it for all components, while there may be some benefits to mixing and matching, it would have to be huge, like double or triple production to make the learning curve, etc. worth the investment. Unfortunately my personal choice isn't good for 3rd party data collection companies of any flavor, again YMMV.

Hi

I thnk i found it the solution From page 18 of the GS 14 user manual

I reset the receiver by holding the power and antenna buttoms down for 10 seconds anr the reciver is reset to factory state
this i think cleared the settings from the CS 20 i was testing not very captivated with and returned...

With the receiver reset
This then allowed carlson to configure the GS 14 properly

So all is good just waiting on the other 2 new GS 14 to arrive
so i can set them up and continue the testing of base and rover

Below is a cut paste from the Leica GS 14 user manual

Enjoy

Pete

Press and hold buttons for 10 s. The System RAM on the GNSS instrument is formatted. Settings of all installed software will be deleted. The Storage, RTK Base and RTK Rover LEDs flash red. The Position LED flashes yellow quickly three times. After the formatting the System RAM, the GNSS instrument is turned off.

Leica GS14 2016 and Carlson Surveyor+

Okay here is how to make the above work together.

Install SurvCe 5.02 note 5.04 will not work some how
things where broken between versions!..

Take the GS 14,s to Leica service and get the frequencies
set all the same.
In Carlson channels 1-16 are available and do not show
actual frequency's so make up a small paper sticky
with frequencies and clear tape to each receiver.

The frequency's will be handy when a repeater is being
used to get over the hill to the valley below.

On the Carlson base RTK tab there is a baud choice. This rate is for the
blue tooth connection NOT the UHF radio baud Yikes,
set this at 115200 for the blue tooth.

Message type select RTCM v3.0

If the above fails to work factory reset the receiver by holding
down the power and antenna buttons on the GS 14 for 10 sec's
this will clear out any settings from other controllers
i think may have been used with the GS14,s and mostly sets and gives carlson i assume
a known start point to set the receivers from.
See page 18 Leica GS 14 user manual for receiver resets and more exciting details.

Pete

Thanks to Keith at spatial for his work on this..

Just curious if anyone else uses the GS14 or 15 combined with a Carlson surveyor 2 dc?  Is this still an issue or has it been fixed in newer versions of survce? I really like Leica GPS hardware but not sure I’m willing to part ways with my surveyor2 in order to use Leica.

@andy-j

Major issues with compatibility or minor? Would you recommend this combination of GPS and dc?

@jmh4825

It's never a good idea to mix and match like this.  As technology advances, I believe these combinations become more difficult.  We looked at this combination around the time of this original post and never received a sufficient answer from the salesman or tech support about the functionality.  We bailed and went with the ole' tried and true singular manufacturer and never looked back.
