I have two desktop computers on my home network that run Windows XP Professional, and Windows XP.
I want to, (need to), keep them on my network for printer sharing, and file sharing. I do, however, want to effectively take them off of the internet for security purposes with XP support being discontinued.
Is there an easy way to keep the computers connected to the network, but keep them off of the internet?
Thanks in advance,
Jimmy
Jimmy Virus's could be dispatched to W7 and W8 then sent to attack defenseless XP's in your network...

I'm putting two wireless cards in the Win7 Professional.
Setting up two wireless router networks.
Only one card will connect to one router connected to the internet with no file sharing setup.
The other card is for file swapping only.
Option One is that I am using TP-Link routers that have a 2.0 usb port to connect to external hard drive.
Option Two, Western Digital has a wireless MyBook (1gb to 3gb)external storage drive to share with more than one computer, phone, tv, etc without going thru a computer to save files. Wireless is faster than 2.0usb and you have your own personal storage cloud.
The other choice would be to hardwire one computer for internet.
With my experience with lightning, I am not connecting my computer to anything except surge protected battery backup and monitors, everything else is Bluetooth or wireless to router.
If I ever connect a HDMI cable to my monitor again, it will be surge protected.
I will have to take care in how I set up my file swapping protocols to avoid direct file swapping between Win7 and XPs.
That's my plan.B-)
I use a Linksys Router that has Parental Controls. Not sure what you are using but should have something similar that should be able to block internet access that way.
Set the gateway to something other than your router in your network card. Ie 127.0.0.1..
Alternatively, you can use the subnet section but you have to calculate your ip and make sure that the subnet you set don't include your router's ip.
