Microsoft ActiveSync and Allegro CX

I am using Microsoft ActiveSync on an Allegro CX with SurvCE currently and using XP to transfer to and from Allegro, my question is how do I connect the Allegro CX to Windows 7 or 10? I know that there is a replacement for Microsoft ActiveSync but wanted to know if others had put it on an old AllegroCX, from what I know the same version has to be on both the computer and the Allegro. I am making a transition over to Carlson and Civil 3D on new computers and need to get this worked out so that I do not have to take several computers on the road with me.

TIA
Ed

You can use a docking cradle (from Juniper Systems) and transfer with Windows Mobile Device center on windows 7. I assume it will work with windows 10, also, but don't know for sure. Another alternative would be one of the usb to com adapters, but I haven't tried it. I use the docking cradle daily with an Allegro MX. I also have a CX that I've used in the past with it, too.

I am using a cradle but Windows Mobile Device center on windows 7.1 is not recognizing it. Do you have to put WMD on the Allegro?

Sometimes my Win7 64-bit system won't recognize my docking cradle. Whenever that happens I plug it into a different USB port and MDC will see it.

Jim,

Do I need to add MDC to the Allegro for Win7 64 bit to see it?

Thanks,
Ed

Ed, You might try "enable advanced network functionality" in the settings > connections > usb to pc > tab.
There is an article or notes on the Juniper systems website about connecting to pc's.
Like Jim said, sometimes it is finicky about connecting. A reboot or two does it for me sometimes, too.

edit: I don't think you need to put anything on the allegro. It's got all it needs to connect, and won't recognize wmd anyway.

I don't think you have to add anything to the Allegro, the host operating system should be able to discern the nature of the device connected via the USB port. Worst case you'd have to install a driver on your host system for the Allegro, but it should be a standard Windows thing.

I'm a little fuzzy on the way WMDC works, so maybe I've gotten something wrong above, but I do know that when I plugged my Allegro CX into my Win7 64-bit system, it immediately launched WMDC and connected.

You might try connecting via serial port (if you have one) to make sure something hasn't gone wonky on the Allegro.

Since you have SurvCE, have you tried Carlson X-Port?

Jim,

I will give that a try later, I have to be out of here by 6AM and it is already late on the East coast. So far all I have seen in Device Manager is unknown device and windows says all drivers are up to date. The Allegro CX has Windows CE version 4.2 and it transfers just fine on the old XP machine and my XP laptop using ActiveSync so I have been going from XP machine to Win 7 64 bit machine either using USB or network. I am trying to get this worked out before the XP machine crashes. I will check back in tomorrow.

Thanks,
Ed

edillo,

Did you figured out solution? I have the same issue...juniper says that Windows 7 doesn't support earlier versions of Windows CE...

Maybe check your firewall settings I know there are some settings in McAffee that cause connection issues. Maybe disable and try to connect to see if it is an issue.

I followed the advice on this thread and it works sometimes, usually after I reboot the computer and after multiple tries of connecting and disconnecting. I did have to leave it connected for 20 - 30 minutes the first time for the computer to recognize the cradle. The transfer still has issues and when I am in a hurry I still use an old XP computer to make the transfer, it works every time.
