Does anyone know of comprehensive training or educations when it comes to Captivate?
I have wasted countless hours watching online videos that don't apply, or fail to address my particular problems, (seriously, converting a bently alignment to viva doesn't help me in converting an autocad alignment to captivate) and contacting Leica and the local salesman for assistance with limited help.
(at this point, I am willing to fly anywhere in the country to accomplish this)
Failing that, can anyone offer assistance with the following:
Exporting autocad 3D alignments for staking
Exporting autocad road corridor to road profile and cross section templates
Staking a line involving more that 2 pts.
Deleting more than one point at a time.
Any sensible instruction on road staking, road job creating and what I need to do for each of those steps.
I am seriously feeling like captivate is Leica's version of windows vista.
If I remember correctly the Captivate Technical Reference Manual was pretty comprehensive and outlined alignments in pretty good detail. I have sent project files to Leica in the past and with that data they were able to pinpoint an issue with the files I was trying to utilize.

Ill bite,
Exporting autocad 3D alignments for staking
Export a LandXML from autocad. us the XML import tool or the Alignment importer tool under Import data.
Exporting autocad road corridor to road profile and cross section templates
Use the same above method
Staking a line involving more that 2 pts.
Create a Polyline. Main menu/Create pts & lines/Create Polylines. Then use this line in stake to line.
Deleting more than one point at a time.
This is not possible, you can use filters to hid a range of points. You can also copy points between jobs with a filter. For example, only import points 250-500 or with code XXX. Having a delete button that would delete more that 1 point would be a very dangerous button and I understand the reasoning for not having it.

As others have stated the Tech Ref is best. however there is a ton of information in that and it might not be fit your needs. what exactly are you looking to do. I might be able to help you with it.
Eric,
Your response might be more assistance than I have recieved from my dealer to date.
I am swamped with work over the next week, but will try your suggestions as I get time.
Question1
Thanks for the create polyline assistance.
I tried creating one today without success.
I see the sample was as follows 1(2)3.4(5)6 where the brackets appear to be a point on curve. My particular line is a straight line with changing grades from 1054-1072.
I tried 1054-1072....... No luck.
I then tried 1054 1055 1056 1056........ Ran out of available spaces, so tried to just do that,..... Again, no luck.
Then reverted to the sample and tried 1054.1055.1056.1057...... Still didn't like it.
Finally, assuming that a three point curve per the sample could also be a straight line with an infinite radius, I tried 1054(1055)1056....... Nope, still didn't like it.
Any suggestions?
OK, I have two solutions.
1. bring in a DXF/XML of the line and use that.
2. use the Alignment editor and use that alignment in reference line
- Open Alignment Editor
- Create new alignment
- Name the Alignment and select "Road" for alignment type. Also note the storage location.
- Edit Horizontal Alignment
- Edit the start point coordinates and station
- Then press add to create the next elements.
- once complete do the same for the Vertical alignment
- Select "Convert to Job"
- Save the Alignment to a "road Job" and select "Horiz & Vertical alignment" in the Geometry to be converted box
- Open Stake to line or Measure to line
- Select "Line"
- On the Define Line page press the Enter Key on "Line"
- Press F5 Import
- Change the From to "Road design" and select your road job and your Alignment
- Profit
If you or your crews are still having trouble give me a call at the office and i can get you up and running in a couple of minutes.
Thanks
