We had a last minute call to come to a mine with our MS50 and do a demo of volume calcs using the internal scanning capabilities. After doing some test scans yesterday we realized that we didn't have all the software modules we needed to do this. We called our distributor Maine Technical Source and wrote to Leica directly to see if we could expedite the purchase of these license keys.

Well...they came through and got us the needed license keys in less than 8 hours and today we were able to really impress our client. In 45 min we had scanned four setups around a large stock pile, and 15 min later delivered the volume to them on site. We then showed them the model that was created in Infinity (in less than 5 min) and how many actual points were used to develop the surface. They were impressed.

The previous surveyor was still taking hand field notes and would take 2-3 days to deliver a volume. We got to see his calculations on the same pile and he did not locate very much detail at all...really took a bottom perimeter and a top perimeter and thats it, he missed all the detail on the top and on the sides. We provided a volume that was 200 c.y. lower than his (the pile was only 2420 c.y.) This is important as they use these numbers to value the piles. Apparently there have been too many discrepancies over the last few years between the projected value of a pile and the actual weight taken out of the pile.

So thank you to Leica and Main Technical Source and Leica for helping us get this very long term project (last guy was there for 25 years).

Yes MTS is always on the ball. They have fixed my equipment in a single day in the past and they are nice folks!

Too bad you showed your client how easy it is to inventory their stockpiles, now they are going to ask why it costs so much when it only takes you a few hours to do it.
😛

$10,000 to setup and scan from 4 locations.

$90,000 to know which buttons to push.
