Been thinking of upgrading CAD so I was looking for some older licenses to avoid paying...

I found several 'OEM' sites that provide downloads of the software that you cannot register with Autodesk. Not legit.

But I found two iOffer and Associated Software Sales that seem to be legit.

In the past, our "dear" AutoDesk did not allow sale of anything older than the current product. Even if the particular disks were never registered or used. Yes, personal experience there.

I seem to remember there being a law suit relating to that, but do not remember the outcome (and don't have the motivation to scour the internet for that at this time)

i recall some lawsuit and i thought the outcome was that people could sell their old software

$1500 for an outdated seat of C3D

as i am more familiar with Map3d at about $5k for the 2013 version, what would the 'used' version be worth? probably more than the $30 i saw on the iOffer, but $500 or $1000 would not be totally out of the realm of possibilities.

So, my brain cells aren't completely dead yet 😛 , what a relief!

A company I used to work for threw out (literally, in the trash can) 2-3 older versions of AutoCAD. Unregistered and unused. I very promptly decided to snag them and sell on ebay. Those sales were thrown off line within hours.

What upset me more were the numerous other sales of AutoCAD taking place at the same time on ebay with, as far as I could tell, no consequence. Some may have been from authorized resellers. Seems to me there were older versions for sale as well though.

i remembered the first case in 2008 allowing the sales, but did not remember the appeal

i believe that is you have an unopened box, you are still fine
the EULA is inside the box
if you do not open the box, how can you accept the EULA?

The boxes my previous company were throwing out were opened. I called AutoDesk and confirmed that at 2 of the 3 licenses were not activated. Yet the listings were still pulled from ebay.

My "fuzzy" memory remembers along the lines of Auto Desk requiring sales be made by authorized resellers And that only new versions were to be sold. As in no old copies. At all were to be sold. I haven't looked into it for years, so I do not know if that has changed.

As far as I can figger, 2004 was the last version that had the key on the package, and you didn't have to register online ...

The versions that company were throwing out were from the early 2000s. From that era, the product still needed the keys, but I you are correct about it not "calling home" for permission....
