OTHER THEN TCC..
I am looking for way to so get drop box or something similar on a Trimble tsc3. We have used Trimble connected community (TCC)and found it to be clunky at best. Would like any suggestions or work flows that are out there.
I am about to try out that tcc, but it does look a bit iffy and am hesitant to start. What i really wanted to do with it was to be able to link two job files from two controllers doing a topo on the same site, so that at regular time intervals, both job files could load up to the tcc, and then the updated file would show on the other controller, that way both surveyors in the field would be able to see what the other one has already surveyed.
I find that when we run two rovers or robots at a time on a topo, we often shoot and duplicate the points the other has already got. The temptation is to overshoot than rather have to go back , thinking the other guy got the shot and in the end, no one got it.
Do you think tcc would do this ?
As far as managing several controllers, i am just doing so with a laptop linked to dropbox in the field , and load and download from the linked laptop, but all the controllers are always on the same site, which makes it easy.
I think i may try connect to my dropbox from the tsc3 controller and just manage the files from there, dropbox works well for me in all other aspects, maybe this too.
We have two TSC3 controllers, one each for our R8 and S8.
We know they are supposed to be able to talk to each other, send job and points files etc between them.
But blowed if we can make it work.
Even moving the files from one to another with a USB memory stick doesnt work that well for us. And TTC is just a joke.
In the field it is just easier to manually re-enter what points we need from one to the other.
Have you looked at Google Drive?
It acts like an online drive. It can be configured to work with TSC's I believe. Just need a connection.
I agree the TCC is not intuitive. Nor is it clear what is being synced. At least not to me. We experimented with it and nobody was enthusiastic about it. Shame because it seemed like a very good idea. Probably just need a Trimble tech to show us how it should work.
TCC is not that robust to do what you are talking about.
I have not tried google drive. All my crews have tsc3's with sim cards installed. Right now, our main communication is through email, how ever having a cloud solution for multiple crews to access, calibrations, control, CSV files would be very helpful. I am going to try google drive, I will get back and let you know if this would be a good workflow. Thanks for the help.
we use the memory stick very frequent to exchange gps points, csv- and dxf files between our TSC2's. Never had a problem, once you figure out how to work with the mini explorer all goes well.
You are very welcome.
This link has good info on sharing files and making them 'visible' or not.
Hi sslocum,
Where in TCC you are having a problem? TCC is actually really good, its a lot better than dropbox for sure. Have you tried to install TCC Explorer on your PC? its like another drive on your PC. Once your TCC is configured or synced its a matter of copy and paste or its just another drive to your PC while on your Controller is a matters of syncing only.
I suggest to ask help to your local dealer, for sure they can help you.
By the way, TSC2/TSC3 OS is Windows Mobile 6.5, dropbox/google drive has no support for the said OS so it will not work with TSC3 or TSC2.
I just started playing with skydrive. It's a Microsoft product and may be supported in windows mobile. I use it on my android phone and home computer. Pretty clean interface. Worth checking out.

Google Drive uses a browser window. Since I have opened a browser in my TSC2 I feel that there is little to stop it from working. Now I haven't actually tried to log-in to my account but, both are web page accessible. So operating systems should not be an issue.
Anyone have any joy with this?
The closest I have got is that Sugarsync has a Windows mobile app. BUT - it doesn't sync, you have to download each file by demand.
There was a "droppedbox" project for dropbox to work on windows mobile 6.5 but this no longer works.
I haven't even been able to "beam" a file via bluetooth - it just won't connect with laptop or phone despite repeated efforts.
Can connect using USB cable or USB stick OK.
TSC3 running Access here.
