I received my 1/6th scale Christmas ornaments and they are cool ... The laser sinter not only is cheaper, but, does not really lose that much detail. I already snapped the bottom on the T3 before I remembered that I am dying these, but, it is almost all green anyway.

The one side, visible in the photos, of the scope portion of the Geodimeter does have print stepping on it. That is caused by the orientation when printing. It is the only faces to show it the other side is fine.

I will get them dyed and the detail will come out after that. I don't want to do anything more than boil them in dye as I hate painting, but, we will see.

Those look sharp. I wonder if you can find Wild green?

OK, the content is a little wacky, but, it is Washington and I was making fun of our new law. I did this in a green dye which to me is not going to be that bad for Wild green. I am more worried about Geodimeter orange, although it was nice of them to make the entire bottom black

These are so awesome! I dyed them last night, which is right at the limit of my artistic abilities. I managed to smudge black dye on the eye piece of the Geodimeter, which means that I will probably re-boil the color off and do it again soon.

One thing though, ... I created a green Christmas ornament. Yeah, a green Christmas ornament. What was I thinking? My wife was making all kinds of suggestions last night and finally decided that the T3 needed to be orange. Made me think back to one of my mentors and when he got his T2 back from Leica service and they had painted his bullet case orange. Ballistic does not cover his reaction, LOL

The bases and scopes turn as designed and the side knobs on the Geod work great. Very happy with them, I just need to place some advertising on them and give them out to clients.

Christmas lights

It occurs to me that I could very easily print these with open scopes and holes in the bottom for a Christmas bulb. Yeah, that is going too far ...

Going too far would be creating strings of LED lit ornaments so you could decorate the entire tree with a surveying theme.

Of course not, nothing brings the true meaning and spirit of Christmas to me like more crapola hanging on the tree.

I didn't see a direct email for you, but are you willing to consider selling a couple of these? I'm interested in the Wild T-3 model- or even the 3-D shapefile if available to print on a Makerbot 3-D printer. Looks neat!

Nathan,

I leave a wide swathe of models in my wake, good or bad thing - you decide. The T3 comes in many verities as follows:

WSF (laser sintered nylon, doesn't paint well but takes dye - very strong and flexible and does need to be sealed to keep the dye.
1/4th scale http://shpws.me/p78n This was not designed as a snap together and will print as one piece. It would take me a few minutes to alter
1/6th scale as pictured above http://shpws.me/p7og

FUD Fine Ultra Detail printing - great detail and a little brittle
1/8th scale http://shpws.me/oZgr
1/12th scale http://shpws.me/oQy7
1/4th scale http://shpws.me/oU0x

All of the surveying models https://www.shapeways.com/shops/cpconsult?section=Surveying&s=0

Norm

Is that a T4 I see?

I did modify the 1/4th scale models of both the T3 and the Geodimeter to be snap together movable models. During the Seahawks victory, I will modify the two scanner models

I don't see that I can modify my first post so, a more comprehensive list ...

WSF (laser sintered nylon, doesn't paint well but takes dye - very strong and flexible and does need to be sealed to keep the dye. These are all snap together kits for dying and for movement once the model is together

Wild T3
1/4th scale http://shpws.me/p78n
1/6th scale as pictured above http://shpws.me/p7og

Geodimeter 600 Robot
1/4 scale http://shpws.me/p7zN
1/6th scale as pictured above http://shpws.me/p7ss

Leica C10 laser scanner
1/8th scale http://shpws.me/p7Bk
1/6th scale http://shpws.me/pt6Z

Leica 6200 laser scanner
1/6th scale http://shpws.me/p7zJ

____________________________________________________________________________

FUD Fine Ultra Detail printing - great detail and a little brittle. All are designed with moving parts, but, printer orientation decides if it will actually work and we have no control of that. View them as models and if they function, great!

Christmas lights

My issue is some idiot designed a green ornament .... I am not even going to ask the wife for an aluminum tree:-O Or a flocked one, as I know the answer. I am going to boil the color out of the T3 and dye it red or blue or something and then when the Holidays are over, cut off the hanger, boil the color out and dye it green again for my desk
