I have a HP48 with SMI ACE V6 card with 128kb data card that I have not used in a few months. I recently turned it on and it is acting strange.

Now when I turn it on, sometimes I get a “Warning: Invalid Data Card” and sometimes I get “Initializing ACE”.

In both cases, the ‘beep’ feature of the calculator gets turned on, which I don’t want to hear, and I have to go into the calculator settings and turn it off. Prior, when I turned it on, it would keep the previous settings. Also, whatever info I have in the stacks gets wiped clean.

I have changed the battery in both the calculator and the data card just in case that would help.

Any suggestions on how to fix it?

I don’t mind doing a hard reset to the calculator or the cards since this is just a desk calculator, but I don’t remember how to do it.

Thanks,

Miguel A. Escobar, LSLS, RPLS

If I remember correctly, you remove the rubber foot at the top-right and use a pin to push into hole for a hard boot.

Can you check the battery in your RAM card? Some have replaceable batteries. I think I used to get that error when mine would die, but it has been a while since I used mine.

Pull Out Both Cards And Clean Contacts

Then reformat.

You will lose any card data, but you have it all downloaded and saved, right?

There are two possible solutions to your problem. Type PINIT and press ENTER on the HP48. This may fix it. If that doesnt fix it go pick up a new battery for your memory card. Leave the card in the calculator when you change out the battery or you will lose all of you data. Again do not remove card from calculator when changing the battery in the memory card or you will lose all of your jobs. This should fix you up. Enjoy.
