I have an older hp designjet 100. The driver I used for it won't work. There are a number of device driver managers out there. "Driver Detective" is one of them. You get malware, and other garbage, and NO DRIVER that you needed. So, beware of these scams. I paid my $40 for "Driver Detective". It is a huge download. I wonder what other spyware came with it.
Curse ye scalded internet scammers!
🙂
Beware of them.
If your new computer is W7 the drivers for Vista will often work.
thanks I'm trying
I am about at the end of my rope. What wide format printer could you recommend? I'll need probably D size.
thanks
Nate
Have you tried a print server yet? That's how I solved the driver problem for my 450C when I moved from XP to Win7. They're pretty cheap ($25 to $50 or so on ebay for the HP 170X, which is what I'm using), so you could try it and maybe save the cost of a new plotter.
I don't know what that is, Jim....
Google is my friend....

I've got a designjet 430, which I run off of an old XP Pro Dell. Also have 2 Win. 7 comps, wifi ethernet etc; so I can get the concept of the HP 170X "dongle" with the parallel plug, but how does this solve the software drivers missing in the Win 7 machines?
Well, the old xp machine is sort of dead.... Maybe resurrect it, and try that...
I actually told it that I had a hp designjet 100 plus, (mine is not a plus) and it would NOT install it. I finally, OVERRODE it, by telling it I "Had a disk" to install from, and modified the path, so that it went to that extracted file, and it installed that driver. AND it actually printed, (but gave me an error code) So, I may have this puppy in the right pen... we see. If I have to, we can get the old XP going....thanks everyone. If you need, I can send you the "fix" I used, if anybody needs it.

Once the file is sent or dumped into a print server all the print commands are processed by the server and the computer is free to do other things.
If the server has enough memory it can be loaded with many files to print.
Can this be done without another computer, just a solo print server?
The print server serves as a hub between a computer or many computers and a printer.
With the print server, where does the printer driver software reside?

I have no idea how it works. Prior to installing the print server, I loaded the latest HP driver, but I could only print in black and white. I installed a demo of the Winline driver and it worked well - I could print in color - but I balked at the $200 price tag. Someone here suggested a print server, so I picked one up for $25, installed it, and bingo! - color prints again!
It's a mystery to me, but at least it's an inexpensive mystery.
Computer buddy of mine suggested using old eBay HP print server to solve the serial port issue too. Small box installs into your network with cat5 cable, and the plotter installs as a network printer. Bingo, legacy plotter on modern wired network. I did away with my plotter before I got it implemented though. All large plots got out PDF now, and I make the clients print them.
HP has a universal driver for the designjets. I haven't tried it yet, but here's a link that will get you to the page where you choose your OS.
Nate,
I used the driver for an hp 130 (or is it 110?) for my 100. It works OK with windows 7. I becha something close to a 100 will work.
OK, I installed the driver for a 100 plus. It now prints with errors. JT, that is my next step. The 110+ also does odd things... thanks JT.

I looked and mine is for the 100 plus. I haven't noticed any errors, but I only use it with Carlson in Autocad.
