Another surveyor passed along this job posting he came across that definitely is an opportunity that just doesn't come along every day. You can thank me later.

[sarcasm][/sarcasm]I bet there'll be a line for that one! Only 1200 documents!

Let's see: Read, calculate, and plot 1200 documents for a total fee of $800. Assuming on average each can be read, calculated, and plotted in 15 minutes (which is one heck of an assumption), that would be 300 solid hours for said $800. No, think I'll pass.

Thanks Kent. I needed a giggle tonight.

Yes, and that $0.67 for examining and plotting each document has to be pure profit for the skilled user.

I really feel sorry for any idiot that tries to do this! (I bet he has a contract to do this job, for 5k, and wants a sub, to give this to!)

Maybe a good job for a realtor, with a bit o mapping software! (You know, give the realtor a good look at surveying!) (Pat May excluded, and a few more excluded!)

Notice that it says documents, not individual descriptions. Maybe it's one big description that covers 4 pages and it's 1196 pages of notary pages.
😉

> 3) Maps and locations to land found under list of names and documentations.
> 4) Any leases contracted to the land from any company.

I suspect this is the killer...

"4) Any leases contracted to the land from any company."

This job requires a magician to figure that one out.

Wow, I didn't know GIS folks knew so much about title documents and leases. Where have I been?

Dear Mr. Karoly:

I have been reviewing the GIS that you put together of the Gottbucks estate lands and can well believe that it took quite a bit of your time as you say. I'd love to send you a check for the $800.00 fee that we agreed you would be paid and I fully intend to do so just as soon as I get your certificate regarding all leases contracted to the land from any company(s). This last part is really important and I had thought it would probably be the main part of the work. I suppose that as a gesture of good faith, I can see my way clear to paying you $200 to cover the GIS work, with the balance to be held until completion of the remainder of the work as per our agreement.

Respectfully,
James Dean, Oil & Gas Assets Manager

"Currently I am heading up an estate.."

Is that an actual job title or industry ?? Did someone get a job as a Landman and get overwhelmed by the workload/duties ?
Seems like someone just set themselves up, and anyone relying on them. That can't be good somehow.
