WHen I draw a dashed line in model space, I have to make the linetype scale something like 0.001 to make the dashes visible in my 20 scale viewports.
For a while one of the 20 scale viewports was making the dashed a different length than the other.
How can I fix this? These dashes seem to have a mind of their own.
What version of AutoCAD...?
Starting in 2008, they introduced a new system variable, so everything seems to work correctly when you have LTSCALE=1, PSLTSCALE=1, and MSLTSCALE=1. Earlier versions of AutoCAD were more problematic.
I personally have a different style - more old school which adds to my frustration with a drawing with multiple viewports at multiple scales. I try to keep each page at the same scale to avoid the issue, but when i plot multiple sheets, I will often change the scale of the drawing to make the lines come out properly. Compound this with custom linetypes with text and the fact that the LTSCALE feature is Carlson often resets to 0.5 and it can give you a headache. But, I use so many older plans that updating those to the new methods would be a problem on the other side.
Of course, i do not know about the MSLTSCALE, I use CAD 2006.
LTSCALE = 0.2 * scale. Carlson has this under the drawing settings so you can just change the scale and the LTSCALE changes. Again, if things look off, check that the factor is 0.2 (or whatever you choose to use)
PSLTSCALE = 0. This makes the model space scale come through in the viewport.
Perhaps I will change my tune when I get MSLTSCALE.

iT'S CALSON W/ EMBEDDED
Also check your setting for "VIEWRES". Set it to a minimum of 6,000 and I think most of your problem will go away. Just type "viewres" on the command line and reset it to the higher value.
I have had ther same problem this week and this is what worked for me.

I changed LTSCALE to 0 and fixed the DRAWING SCALE and everything is working. I think it sometimes changes back to the default of 50 scale when I create a new paper space sheet.
Perry,
I use the same version of Carson that you do.
I set my drawing scale ot whatever I need it. I set my ltscale to one. I set psltscale to 0. My version of carlson does not have msltscale.
I hope this helps.
Thanks to some of the help offered here, I finally figured out how to have multiple drawing scales in the same drawing for a particular client. It's kinda tricky, and cumbersome, but it works.
Good luck,
Jimmy
keep your eye on those carlson settings, they seem to slip all the time
mine also slips on the angular units
it keeps changing them to 'Surveyor's Units' which are bearings
i prefer plain jane angles.
Yes, 2006 was too early, since this change was made in 2008. If you're on 2008 or later, the simplest thing to do is set LTSCALE=1, PSLTSCALE=1, MSLTSCALE=1. Then everything is very simple.
