Bricscad (a vanilla autocad clone) is ported to Linux and there are several decent cogo/survey add on packages that are marketed for it. Most of these are primarily foreign language based so if you happen to be bilingual (mostly either Spanish or German) it will definitely increase your options. It also will run most lisp routines so lots of the old legacy custom cad routines will work with only minor modifications. All of that being said I am so addicted to the Civil 3D paradigm that I just can't make myself do without it so if I had to I would try to get C3D running in a virtualbox.?ÿ

What distro of linux are you using or contemplating using?

I was also looking at Brics Cad but it might take too much time for me to attempt to make the switch out of Windows. ?ÿ
