I'm looking around for Civil3D training in California and came across a curriculum tailored to surveyors that seems appropriate for someone like myself with a basic working knowledge but could use improvement with workflow. The hangup is they need critical mass interest before they offer the course. If this looks interesting to you, send an email to Ideate and let's get a group together. SF, SJ, or SAC are the options...I'm flexible.

Also, any advice on alternative training options are welcome.

The Tutorials and Help Section that come with C3D are really quite good. They even have a Best Practices Guide in the Help Section.

As for books, my favorite is Civil 3D For Surveyors. With shipping, about $80.

The Ideate Training Course is expensive. If your company is footing the bill, then do it. But you certainly don't need to spend that much money.

If I was in California I would contact Cad Masters. They have many C3D training courses. I bought the many LDD versions from them for years and then Autodesk made me buy local (Applied Technology was terrible)for C3D subscription . I do believe if I could have stayed with them I would be using C3D today. I never had a problem with their tech support. Or a least they sure did seem to be a great company.

I agree CAD Masters is the best for anything ACAD. You can do an inexpensive self-paced course or a hands-on class. I think they are based out of Walnut Creek, but have offices all over.
