The text edit box for single line text is pretty much what it has been since AutoCAD R12. The multiline text editor is not. Does anyone know if you can get the old mtext editor back? I want the old one where the contents come up in a window along with the editing tools ribbon, not an external editor like notepad. It is easy to get lost when you have a large amount of text you want to edit.

I've never had Notepad open up while trying to edit mtext, but if you go to your Options, under the Files tab, look for the Text Editor, Dictionary, and Font File Names heading. Expand that section, then expand the Text Editor Application. Mine says Internal. Perhaps you have Notepad listed there?

On the command line type MTEXTED. Notice the default value is "internal". Change the value to "oldeditor". If you wanted to go back to the new MTEXT editor, put the word "internal" in the value.

That doesn't work with previously created text. I get an error that the text contains formatting that is not supported. I created some new text and the edit box is bigger and readable but it is still not what I am looking for. It looks more similar to the default than the old mtext editor.

Do you use the panel button icons? I use them and when I double click on text it gives me alot of options, looks like a word document would.

Yes, you're right Vern I played with it a little bit after I posted that solution and found that the old editor wouldn't edit mtext created by the new editor, it also broke a lisp routine that I use frequently leadertomleader, so I switched back to the internal also.

For the record I use the new editor and the panel buttons on the ribbon and I like it just fine, I was just looking for a solution to Vern's request. I like the WYSIWYG nature of the new editor.

Can you post a screen shot? I don't understand what you are talking about.

Thanks Scott.
I unchecked the "WYSIWYG" and now I have something I can work with. My issue was that when zoomed out I couldn't edit the text efficiently because I couldn't see it. Now it blows it up almost enough, I would like it a little bigger, but I can work with it.
