Civil 3D Point Group Problem

I'm having a problem in the way the points in a point group are being displayed and the fact it changes all the points in a drawing. The software is Civil 3D 2013.

In this case I have a point group called Beam Ends. In the point group order it is above the point group All Points. I want the point text to be smaller for the point group Beam Ends. When I change the style for that point group it changes the text size for all the points in the drawing. I've moved the point group Beam Ends below the group All Points and it doesn't matter, it still changes the text size of all the points in the drawing. I'm probably missing something obvious but I don't know what it is.

I don't know if it matters but the drawing was originally created in LDD and later brought into Civil 3D and the points updated in Civil 3D

It could be several things but lets just check a few simple things first.

How is your new point group being populated?
(a) point range
(b) by description
(c) all points

DL,

Check in the Overrides Tab of your Point Group:

I've got the point group set up by a point number range. I just left work so next wheel I'll have to check the over rides.

Dave's right....you have to have those override toggled, but you also have to have the point style set for those points so they will be smaller. Create a point style called 'beam ends' and a point label style called 'beam ends'. Make the beam ends point label style smaller than the all points.

If you edit a style then it affects everything using that style, it won't matter group the points are part of. In this case it sounds like you want to copy the point label style that you're using as the default, make changes to the new style and then apply that to the Beam Ends point group.

Followup on point groups:

All points in a drawing are automatically part of the _All Points group. When you create another point group you create filters to define which points from _All Points are included.

Since point groups are built using filters any point can be part of many groups. The Toolspace allows you to order the groups as you like.

For each point the software will start from the top of the list of groups, searching for the first one which that point falls into. This is called the Primary group for that particular point.

If the point group has Overrides turned on then the point group style will be used for display.

In overrides are not turned on, and the point has an individual point style and/or label style then that will be used.

If there are no styles assigned to the point then the software reverts back to the group styles.
