Client wants a plan with all line work and detail in monochrome as usual but with all of the changes (as built plan) shown in red. I can print color OK but I don't see any way to do this but then I am not a "CAD" person only use it because I have to. So, Carlson 2017/2018 with AutoCAD C3D 2013 . I am sure there is some easy way to do it but I just don't know how.

Help!

Set your pen assignment style to monochrome (upper right corner of the plotting dialog box). Then, edit the monochrome print style to plot red as the object color instead of black. You could save the new print style as 'red' so that you don't have to edit the pen assignment back to black when you are wanting to plot in monochrome.

in the plot style table, go to edit, then go to the form view tab, then pick a color (I use color 123) and go over to the properties, and change the color to red. This changes the plot color to red.

As scotty said, maybe change it to a new CTB file. The 123 color is in my standard CTB, and any other custom styles to print a different color I would make another CTB file.

To expand on Scotty's post.

I pick a color that is not used often (240) then draw all as-built layer using color 240 (red on screen also).

in Acad: file->plot style manager

double click monochrome.ctb, edit pen 240 (color "use object color") save as- monochrome-240-red.

Done.

Two of the ways are:
1. Create an asbuilt layer and choose red as the color and draw the new stuff there
2. Edit your changes and asbuilts inside the drawing with the Edit > Change > Properties commands and pick red as the color.

Visually I cannot tell red, color 1, from red, color 10, but red1 is set to print black, but red 10 and a lot of other colors off the basic palette print in their screen color. For example my traverse lines are shown in red 30 and print as a brown orange. That layer is never turned on for a customer plot.

Since everyone else has given you the same answer, I'll throw something different at you. You probably won't want to do this since it will require some setup time, but I prefer to plot by styles rather than by color. This would mean using an STB file instead of a CTB file.

I won't go into specifics, but plotting by styles allows you to apply line weights, screening, and plot colors without regards to any screen colors you use. For example, my text layers are almost always set to color white since I find that visually pleasing regardless of a white or black background. Even though they are all white, I can still apply different line weights. Color plots are easily achieved by setting your layers to be a style that plots to color, rather than either (a) changing all your layers to the same color so they all plot to the same red, or (b) setting up several colors to plot to different colors, then changing the layers to be mapped to these colors.

This is the one Microstation concept that I've embraced!

White text on a white background sounds great way not to see any text.

White text on a white background shows up as black.

What's fun is to sneak onto a co-workers computer while they are away and if you set the text color to black on a black background, they'll never see it. Until they plot. Then they can see all the nasty notes you put on their drawing. You get to see who really checks their work before they send it out.
