Just today, all of a sudden, the text inside the inverse screen appears blacked out. Anyone know what's happened? If you h/l the text you can read it, but only if you h/l it. I now have to go into map in order to inverse. PITA.

I'm not sure what would cause this. You might try this:
- Properly back-up/download all of your data on the collector and exit from SurvCE.
- Press and hold the Power key until the Power Off option appears and power down the collector.
- Remove the battery(ies) from the collector.
- With the battery(ies) removed, press and hold the Power button for a solid 20 seconds.
- Re-insert the battery(ies) and power the collector back on.
- Launch SurvCE and see if the behavior persists. If it does, my suggestion would be to contact Carlson Technical Support at 606-564-5028 to see if they have any other suggestions.
I hope this information helps.
I fixed it by switching the color scheme from black to blue. I read this was an Archer 2 issue, and not necessarily a Carlson issue. What's so weird is I never changed the color scheme straight out of the box, and it's worked fine for over a year now. Oh well...I like the blue better anyways. Lol.

Ladd, is there any reason on the Mini 2 I keep getting the error "The device did not respond to the command"? Seems to happen a lot.
Without knowing more of the specifics, it is extremely difficult to say (with any certainty) what is at the root of the problem. Presuming you are referring to SurvCE on a MINI2, things I would want to know (but are time-consuming to diagnose via web-posts) would include:
- Which version of SurvCE (Equip tab -- About SurvCE) is currently installed to the device?
- What equipment (Make(s), Model(s), Firmware, etc) is being used with the device when the message is encountered?
- What communication type (e.g. wired, BlueTooth, etc) is being used as the communication method with the equipment?
- What command(s) are being run that generate the message?
- How large is the data set (e.g. size in Megabytes) that generate the message?
To me, a "The device did not respond to the command" type of message would indicate some type of time-out tolerance had been exceeded. Common causes for this type of behavior might be:
- a logic-flaw in the software
- an incompatibility with a connected device
- a failing or faulty communication mechanism between the devices
- a large data set that might be taxing the processing power of the device
My recommendation would be to start with your local Carlson dealer to see if they have any insights/suggestions relative to your specific equipment scenario. If this doesn't bear any fruit, I'd next suggest they (or you) contact the Carlson Technical Support Group at 606-564-5028 and be prepared to provide answers to the questions above.
I hope this information helps.
Version is 4.07.3.
Equipment is a Topcon GPT 8003 Robot using the Satel 3ASD radios and the RCII unit.
Communication type is wired to radio and to RCII unit.
Usually it happens when running the TS and switching between menus. I.e., if I'm in stake and I want to get out and go to Point Projection, it will hang, and then gives me the error msg.
Data set varies.
Funny you mention communication, since using this data collector with the Topcon robot, I get a lot of interference on the radios. I even had a post about (search posts under my username and you'll see it). I've hooked my old SMI DC up to it, and have 0 interference, but when the Carlson is hooked up, it spikes. I've tried turning off the bluetooth and the wifi, but that doesn't seem to help. It's also very "choppy" acting when using the robot. The commands seem stodgy, and lag a lot. I've noticed, though, the further away I am, the better it seems to act. Again, none of this is present when hooked up to my old SMI DC.

I don't have any readily available information on SurvCE 4.07.3 (I believe SurvCE 4.07 is/was the last public build that was made available to the public). As such, my recommendation is to contact the Carlson Technical Support Group at 606-564-5028.
I think I may have figured out my issue. Not sure why, but under my Comms settings it was set to "Cable or Gener..." (can't read the rest on the small Archer screen), but I switched it to the Satel 3AS and it seemed to do better. Now, mind you I was just playing w/it in the office parking lot. We'll see how it does tomorrow....
