I have a blank drawing that I started in Carlson by importing about 20 points, then when I try to save it (network, hard drive, doesn't matter) it locks up and takes about 5-10 minutes to save.
When I import the points using the Civil3D "import points" command and save, no problems. Is there some setting I don't know that could be causing this to hang up upon saving?
This definitely isn't normal.
What version and platform are you using?
I have had problems with Carlson running slow before on a network license setup. Try borrowing a license, I bet it speeds right up.
It says on the title bar "Carlson Survey 2014 with AutoCAD" and upon starting it, text line says: "Carlson Software 2014, build 140811".
I open the drawing, and before I do anything else I click the quicksave and it hangs. I've started multiple new drawings, so I don't think it's isolated to a particular drawing file.
Tried that too... sorry sir, it didn't work.
An interesting side note - I started a drawing in Carlson and brought in some points as Carlson point objects. Then I managed to save it and exited the program. Then I opened the same drawing with Civil3D and immediately did a quick save - it locked up immediately. The problem seems to be with the Carlson point objects...?
I don't know, but it should be fixable.

Carlson points are standard AutoCAD blocks (one for the symbol and another being a block with three attributes for the Number, Elevation and Description) that are formed into an AutoCAD "group" with a point/node object for snapping purposes. Some questions I'd ask would be:
1. Which version of Civil3D are you using in conjunction with Carlson 2014?
2. If you run an AUDIT on the drawing (and/or blank template drawing), does it report/find any errors?
3. If you start into Carlson/C3D after a fresh reboot of the computer, does the problem persist?
