When I open Carlson, it opens a blank drawing (Drawing1.dwg) and it is kind of annoying. I use Carlson 2015 Embedded. Anyone, know how to change it so it comes up without opening a blank drawing? I have looked through all the tabs in Options to no avail.
I've wondered about that myself: it's IS very annoying!
There is an Autocad system variable called Startup that controls this. If you type that at your command prompt, it is probably set to 0. Change it to 2 and it won't open up a Drawing 1, and you also won't get the opening Carlson dialog (which usually doesn't work for me anyway).

THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU!
I cannot believe that bug was persistent for so many releases. It IS the first Carlson feature you are exposed to when you launch the software!!
Sometimes you have to wonder.
It does work in 2015, but the button labels are misleading.
You would think you would select the file from the list, then select "Open".
However, you need to use the "Recent" button.
That one drives me nuts!
I am using Carlson 2012 embedded autocad. When I type in Startup at the command line it tells me that it is an unknown command. What am I doing wrong?
If I was in charge of product development, I would have them fix that one before a single new idea was pursued. I'm a great armchair CEO.
That system variable was part of Autocad 2012. I'm fairly new to Carlson, and I still don't know exactly what Carlson with embedded Autocad means versus a version that is not embedded, so I will suggest an alternate method of checking to see if that variable is accessible to you.
Try typing in sysvldg. That should open up a system variable dialog box. If it opens, scroll down in the left pane and try to find Startup on the list. If it's there, then you can change it in the New Value box on the upper right.
If sysvldg doesn't do anything for you, then there is obviously an issue with Carlson and embedded Autocad, and I probably can't help you out.
Let me know if that works for you.
I thought maybe it just didn't work for me. It worked when we started out using Carlson with Intellicad, though it took me at least a half dozen times before I was smart enough to remember not to hit Open after selecting my file from the list!
When we switched back to Autocad, I would still try to open drawings through that box. Since I usually would double click my file and turn my attention elsewhere, it took me a half dozen times again before I realized that it just wasn't going to open any of my files up that way. The strange thing is that I think it actually worked once, which kept me coming back for more for a few more days.
Now that I know it's not me, it's nice to verify that I'm not going crazy...yet.
I get Unknown command"SYSVLDG" when I type in sysvldg at the command line.
Does SETVAR work for you?
When I type in setvar the response is, Enter variable name or (?)
Okay, type in STARTUP when it asks for a variable name, then set it to 2.
Thanks, I'll give it a try. I appreciate your help.
