Carlson, Coord file associations

Here is the deal. I have Carlson 2009. This leaves me with the old acad version. (I like it, don't want to move up)

I have the Javad system, that LIKES alpha numeric point numbers.

My old Carlson Coord Files are NOT alpha numeric. I have to copy them over to another file, (Which Carlson allows).

So, I have the old file, and the new file.

Now, I want to MOVE a coord in CARLSON, so I do. BUT it only moves it in CAD, but the coord is unaffected.

HOW do I unlink the file association from the old file, and RE-link it in the new coord file, so that when I MOVE a coord, in cad, it will also move it in the coord file?

This serves several functions. I make stuff in the laptop, and then move it over to the desktop. Or, move a CAD file the other way, and it looses the association. I have been trying all morning.

Thank you!

Nate

I'm not completely sure I understand what you're trying to do, but have you tried the Points - Point Utilities - Update CRD File from?ÿ Drawing command? It will update the points in the coordinate file to where you've moved them on the screen.

Or using the move points (mpnt) command in the Points menu??ÿ ?ÿIt will move the point on the screen and in the coordinate file.

Move your point using "Adjust coordinates",?ÿ "Move points". Save the new coordinate file as a new name, ie JOB1.crd. Now list your coordinates and note if the point has been moved. If not, Go to "Points", then Coordinate file utilities and select "update crd file from dwg file." Remember, sometimes NOTHING HAPPENS until you do some form of "Save". It's better to take an extra step to make sure things are done.

I'm using the POINTS pull down, "Move Points".

IF I create the coords, in cad from data collector points, it works well.

IF I create the coords, in cad, by copying them over, from another file, they have no association.

Not having this association, the MOVE COORDS command behaves differently.

OK, here's details:

I load an old job. It has 1-1000 coords. Points 300-400 are my temporary coords, for just studying the geometry. I have used 300-330.

I load this old job, into my data collector, and go add to the coords. It now has 1-1100. With a number of ALPHA NUMERIC points.

I also use numbers 330-360 as temporary coords.

I use them for temporary coords etc.

I now have to create a NEW file, so I can download those alpha numeric coords, from the data collector, and integrate them.

So, I make a new file name, and copy the old file over to the new Carlson CRD file.

Now, it has the new structure, and can handle the Alpha numeric coords.

So, it gets the new coords from the data collector, (1000 to 1100) with some alpha numeric. ie, 1025A and 1030A

Now, I take and MOVE around the points 330-360 using the MOVE coord command, and the COORD does not move, only the attribute...

The pull down "Move Coords"?ÿ command fails, when I change coord files, because the coords are associated with the 1st file, and not the second.

I want to be able to re associate the coords with the second file.

Carlson XPort will do all that for you.

I think you could use the update crd file from drawing command in point utilities?ÿand then select whatever points on the screen from the first file you want to "associate" to the second file.?ÿ

"Set Coordinate File" under "Points" to make the new file the associated file for the drawing.

Are you bringing in the points via "Import Crd file"? Save your field points as a .txt file and then import that text file into your drawing.

If that does not work, send me your dwg file and the txt and crd file and I'll see if I can get it to work. If not, you may need to reload your software.

It has been a while since I have messed with Carlson 2009.?ÿ Can't you go into Coordinate File Utilities and use the 3rd option: Convert CRD File Format?

I know they have added some different DBs over the years, but I thought they always supported Alpha-Numeric.

I also use "Convert CRD file format...", then I use "Point Entity CRD File Links Manager..." to make sure the point blocks in the drawing are linked to the coordinate file.?ÿ I'm using 2016 so I don't know if 2009 has that function.

I got it. Under the Coordinate file utilities, Pull down.

"Convert CRD File Format".

If it's alphanumeric, it will convert to numeric only.

If it's numeric only, it will convert to alphanumeric.

I have some messed up files, Don't do this:

"Point Entities Links Manager" Don't click the "Unlink".?ÿ Button. I cannot get them re linked.

I'll figure something out.

Thanks all, and Peter Lothian. The fancier our stuff gets, the more we have complexity.

I started with an old Monroe hand crank....

If all your points are in your dwg, why can't you just delete your old coordinate file, change your settings to alphanumeric, then create a new CRD, and update the CRD from the dwg.?ÿ Or maybe I'm misunderstanding the problem.
