I am looking at possibly upgrading near the end of the year and have a few questions for those using this new software.
I am probably leaning towards the embedded AutoCAD Version. I tried the Intellicad version a few months back, and some of the text commands were different. I just didn't feel as comfortable with it as I do with the embedded AutoCAD version. I also did not like the dialogue box that pops up telling you that the drawing was not created with an Autodesk product. A lot of my drawings go out to engineers, and I don't want that popping up every time they open one of my drawings.
1. Does Carlson 2015 handle any Civil3D objects?
2. Does Carlson 2015 allow you to save drawings back to previous versions?
3. Has anyone demoed the new Survey GNSS software yet? I have a full version of Topcon Tools, but have not been able to get my hardware (usb) dongle to work in Windows 8.
I have requested a Demo CD for both programs.
Thanks in advance,
Jimmy
Jimmy,
I think you can add Carlson to Civil 3D. Then you'd have the best of all worlds. I don't know what hardware requirements you'd need.
Dave
Thanks Dave, but I am a small solo shop. I have no need for all the Civi3D stuff. The price tag is just too much for what I do. I do not do any design at all.
Carlson with autocad will save back to prior versions. You can also though the points menu in carlson bring in civil3d points.
Carlson has two useful commands for dealing with Civil 3D drawings:
C3D_crd
C3D_tin
The first command extracts the points and creates them in the Carlson database (*.crd) file.
The second command extracts the surfaces and saves them as Carlson surfaces (*.tin) file.
Works well.
Go with embedded, more robust.
