new to Carlson- running in civil 3d-
I apparently messed with some settings - brought some points in- wanted to resize the symbol and pt no. and description - when I draw/locate points, it brings them in and resizes but keeps the other points plotted at original size also-in other words, two different sizes of pts, elev, descip. on my screen - besides just being dumb, what needs to be set different in the settings....?
there is a toggle to delete previous entities
yeah - got the erase duplicates checked - still got a double set of points on the screen

Next time, use POINTS -> RESIZE POINT ATTRIBUTES and you will be good to go.
Play with the points. Carlson Points are odd. You have a Node, a Symbol and the block with PNT ELEV and DESC. I reserve symbols for items (UP, Tree etc.) and I have no symbol for others like TOPO or Edge of Pavement. Then use DDPTYPE to change the node to something visible.
If you manually erase a point and your DDPTYPE is null, you will still have nodes in the drawing.
Worst case scenario: Manually erase and redraw.
Erase them all with cad erase . Draw and locate again . You will have one set .
thanks!
thanks guys!
When you have points in your drawing that were brought in from another CAD program, they were located in a specific layer created by that program.
Carlson by default will put points in such a layer.
That will make points being in two different layers.
On the input points menu there is the box to name the layer you want the points inserted into the drawing.
You can select the same name as before if wanted.
Look thru your layer list and you will probably find the old point layer and the new point layer.
Most of my drawings are part of a larger network of surveys and were created by another program.
I go thru this every time I open one to add points and show more work.
😉
As a quality control, you can always compare your database (*.crd file) to your points / CAD entities.
Example
List points = 97 (*.crd file). Then select your points in the drawing, check your properties box: "97 entities" (I forgot the actual CAD word). 97/97 Check.
If you know that your *.crd is good, and your CAD has a miscount, delete all points, redraw and recheck. If you have CAD points with no *.crd file, you can create one by selecting "update crd from drawing".
I think it is a good practice to run that quick QC.
Very flexible, this structure of external database and proprietary external files. Pretty handy, I like it.
before I take that step, I will use the points erase command and choose to not delete them from the database. I do it that way because a cad point may not be in database and could be lost by deleting using the standard erase command.
