Carlson 2008 Survey Standalone Question

I have been tweaking my title blocks some lately. My "base drawing" for my title blocks are old ones from a past employer that were originally created in ACAD R14.

In the lower left, and upper right corners, is a node that I plot a window from. If my memory serves me correctly, in ACAD R14, you could use the "point" command, and the program would place a node where you wanted it.

I cannot seem to find that command, if it exists, in Carlson 2008, Embedded Cad Engine.

Is there such a command? I want a node entity that will be in my title blocks when I insert them into my drawings.

Thanks in advance,
Jimmy

I use a circle, points could be used or just a symbol. The problem with using points in blocks is that if you ever run the check points from drawing command, then you risk adding points that you dont want to the database or overwriting them..using a circle you can select the window by picking the center of each circle.

Thanks. That is a pretty good idea. I never thought of that.

You are correct, I don't want a "point" that could be mistaken as a survey point.

This Board is awesome

Do You Want To Do This ?

My drawing Border layer is actually 2 layers.

"Border" border lines, title block outline etc.

"Border-not-plotted" has a line outside everything that matches the exact sheet size, this layer is a do not plot layer.

Sometimes I may want to slide my border to the right if the drawing set is going to be bound. Back in the good old days an unexposed sheet of blueprint paper went through the ammonia cycle and was then cut and folded into nice looking blue binders.

When plotting the drawing simply "endpoint snap" to the far corners of the "do not plot" layer border.

If the border is a block, you can use the insert of the block as one of the "points"

One Other Thing Regarding Border Do Not Plot

The border do not plot line should be newer than the border line. That way even if you are closer to the border line the snap goes to the newest item.

Way before I set that layer to do not plot it used to be on the border layer, but was newer. Because it was the exact sheet size it was outside the plotter border and would not plot anyway. The way I do it is sort of double overkill.

Man all my dif size border sheets are in my proto drawing as paper space tabs at the bottom of the screen. I did that years ago and haven't inserted a border since! All my layers colors and all other settings are in my proto drawing so I never have to recreate any of that stuff!
Why are you guys not using paperspace?

One Other Thing Regarding Border Do Not Plot

Steve,

That is a pretty cool idea.

I only drafted in model space when I started learning CAD, for many years. I then went to a larger firm, and learned the paperspace. I grew to like it, and used it exclusively when I worked there.

I then went back to the firm where I started, and reverted back ot the model space because that was how they do things, and got out of the habit of using paperspace. I continued that practice for a few years after I opened my business. I have recently started using paperspace again, and probably will continue.

I might set up my prototype drawing like that. I do have about 10 different types of title blocks for different types of drawings/surveys

Sounds like a good project to work on in the evenings while watching TV.

One Other Thing Regarding Border Do Not Plot

I figured out how to insert just a "node" in Carlson.

Go to Draw/Locate Points Dialog Box. In the upper portion of the box where you select what symbol you want, you can check the draw node only box, and most of the rest of the options in the box gray out, and you insert a "node" just like you did with the Point command in regular AutoCad.

I did this a few times, and then listed the entity, and it is just a node or point, and no point numbers are associated with the entity.
