I have a Nova and am finally starting to play more with the point cloud side of it. I've been pretty disappointed with the limited capabilities of MicroSurvey Ultimate and I'd like to test out some new point cloud software. I have the demo of Carlson but I cannot seem to get the data I have into software.

Any suggestions on how to do this or on what point could software to look into? Cyclone is (I think) to expensive (isn't it like 20k or something?)

Thanks
Tom

Tom,

I am not sure what formats of point cloud data Carlson can handle but this is what you can produce on the Leica side:

1. Inside SmartWorx on MS50 or controller you can export the Point Cloud Data. From amin menu select Jobs and Data... then Export and Copy data... then Export XML data. In the CONF (F2) menu you can choose to include the TPS scan data and also select the XML version type

2. The second choice would be to get the Leica Infinity software which is replacing LGO. You can get the package to handle and QC you TPS and Scanning data. Then you can export to XML, E57, or PTS formats to get point cloud data into another package.

You might look at Leica CloudWorx for AutoCAD if you are an AutoCAD user or say Leica MultiWorx for Civil#D or AutoCAD. Each package has its limitations compared to having a full Cyclone package. You should be able to get a trail version of these packages to give you a few days to see what you think about the fit and capabilities

We use Cyclone, but it's probably overkill for someone who is strictly using an MS50. We have infinity, which is basically a viewer right now. But I have heard of others using Cloudworx.
