Rather than being forced to win10, I'm thinking about running Ubuntu.
There is software available for most of my personal requirements.
But I have yet to find a suitable CAD package.
Any one have any suggestions?

BricsCAD I think Jim.
No experience with Ubuntu.?ÿ However, a search with "Ubuntu CAD" produced a number of options.

Are you guy's (mates) getting any smoke pollution? SWMBO sent a sizeable donation (me: cough, cough, sputter) to?ÿ the Australian Red Cross. I wonder if the Northern Hemisphere is going to experience the same catastrophic conditions as you did. I think Mother Nature is giving us our final warning.

Sometimes - depends on the wind - I'm pretty far south, and our usual winds bring air from below Tasmania.
But we have a few Nor Westerlies that have dragged smoke across the Tasman. Weird dark mornings with a strange yellow tinge. I hear it has been seen as far away as Chile.
Glad I dont live on the West Island (Kiwi speak for Australia)
Yes, it would seem to be the best option
But at 1.5K euro (say 2.2k kiwi) its a bit pricey for personal use

wow, old post! I don't come here much, sorry, never saw it.
thanks for the complement but I am far from a genius, just an old guy that hates to mess with Windows and am concerned with it's inherent insecurity.
Linux is Simple and Secure (depending on the spin and the user).
I have tried the various Cad apps for Linux, and tried using the Windows apps in Linux.
Futile effort. You can't match the huge $ and time investments of AutoCad.
I am active in the Linux developer community and keep my eyes and ears open, but there is little motivation to reinvent the wheel for such a small user base.
summary: I do 99.9999% of my work in Linux (Debian, with the Mate desktop)... but I don't do any cad work in Linux, not since Acad 14.
none of the Linux solutions suit me or my clients.
I still use LDD 2007, but in Widows... and will never consider investing the money for an "upgrade".
I use a separate dedicated computer.
HP z620 workstation with 64GB of RAM and dual Xenon CPUs and dual Nvidia GPUs
it is fast and does not frustrate me.
I share files on my LAN and transfer deliverable files in encrypted files/folders direct to the client and/or print shop.
Best of luck!
