If any of you who are using post 2011 editions of C3d to do field to finish using the linework code set method (that is, by importing ascii point files without first converting to fbk) could direct me to good, complete, written instructions on how to do so I would be grateful. I've pretty much exhausted the Help files and stuff I've been able to find on the internet. I've got it maybe about 75% figured out.
I'm willing to spend money on a good book, if one can be found.
Are you just using a csv PNEZD format?

Yes, just that.
I'm looking for some written material to fill in my knowledge and to help me teach others.
I posted this over on the Autodesk Civil3d board and got an answer here which may help.

Thanks, Steve. Good thinking!
We bought this book for Rel.2012,
I think they have one for every version.
Wel written and some good example files come with the book.

The book looks like a good one but I'm having trouble locating a copy to buy. No Amazon, No B&N, not sold by SDC Publications. If anyone knows of a source, please tell.

One of the rolling ads here on SurveyorConnect is for Ascent Learning Resources. They are selling a book with a similar title and a similar table of contents to the one Chris recommended. Could it be the same book, rebranded?
I'm curious, why not convert to a field book?
I could do it if necessary but why add a step if I don't have to? Also, the conversion has typically been much less than 100% accurate.
When you want to use all the possibilties of the linework you'll have abandon the fieldbook way, it has limited support for the new linework control codes.

Norman,
I would also like to master the Field-To-Finish stuff in C3D. That PDF from Awood on Steve's thread is good. There's also Sinc's video on the Quux site:

Also look at the books available at cadapult.com . They are one of the best sources I have found to date.

Thanks. Looks like I'll be investing $65 in my education.

Rick Ellis is from the Portland area so I naturally favored purchasing one of his books. I had previously bought Rick's book on Carlson Survey and it was useful. But looking over the TOC of his C3d books it doesn't look like he is covering, in detail, the specific areas I'm most interested in. But it might yet find its way to my bookshelf.
Check out the dvd below.
I haven't used it but it looks like a good source of information. I like the DVD aspect. It can passed around the office for training when time becomes available.
:good:
Let us know how it works.
