I know I can move COGO POINTS by manually selecting them and using the MOVE command, but is there a way to move points by selecting a named point group?

Thanks,

Steve (using C3D 2010)

What you could do is put the points that you don't want to move on a no display label style (temporarily) then move your points and set the label style back to normal when done. Or...

You could put those points into their own drawing, Xref in your base drawing and lock the layer that the Xref is on and move the points, then export them out and back into your needed drawing.

I don't think points can be moved by group.

Thanks Rob.

I insert my group into a certain unique layer, so I can move by layer.

But it is amazing that LDD has this feature and C3d does not.

When I asked my super about this he said: "well you know, C3d ain't surveyor-friendly".

Quoting from the movie Glory: "seem like the whole world hate the surveyor".

Another option is to make use of the Toolspace. Find your point group in the Prospector tab and right-click on it. One of the options in the shortcut menu should be Select. Use that and then start your ACad command.

It's friendly enough if you have the right third-party tools... Autodesk has historically viewed the world from the Engineer's perspective, though, and they've always been weak with their own Survey support.

You can always download and install the Sincpac-C3D... It contains a command that will let you select Cogo Points by Point Group. The command is in the unlicensed version, so all you have to do is download the software and install it. No need to request any activation code or purchase anything.

The unlicensed version will also give you several other commands that can be extremely useful for Surveyors, such as the SGRD and SGObject commands, among others. The really cool stuff is in the licensed version, but the Free functionality can be pretty useful, too.

And I suppose you saw in the "other forum" that in C3D 2011, they finally got it so you can select a Point Group in Prospector and right-click -> Select.

The option is in C3D 2010, too, but I haven't had much luck getting it to work.

Why not put them in their own point group then select via point group name?

I know some Data collectors will let you highlight a feild/group of points and pretty much do anything Cogo will allow. Your best bet is to create a layer (in your Data Collector then export it later) You can use the "right click" method I stated earlier, say if you want to simply edit a group of points by description,or place their Elevations at say zero. This can be a problem though if you are for instance giving a gun-man the procedure over the radio, as they can literaly overwrite a valuable chunk of Data. Here's my best advice though: Simply handle the Data appropiately the first time. Using a layer though will essentialy just seperate the points so that you may work with them easier later, it wont help you "move" them in any way.
