I was wondering if anybody else recently received a subscription alert from Autodesk, or if it was just me.

I spent several weeks back in April corresponding with Autodesk regarding the fact that I felt they were violating the Licensing and Services Agreement by forcing upgrades on customers rather than giving them the opportunity to accept the recent upgrade offer for the Infrastructure Design Suite software.

Based upon the lack of feedback I was getting from Autodesk, I had given up hope that they were even listening. I am quite amazed that they have rescinded their offer and returned to lawfully following the Licensing and Services Agreement.

Perhaps they just sent it to me to shut me up..?

--------------------------

Dear Autodesk Subscription Customer,
In follow-up to a previous email you received regarding the automatic AutoCAD® Civil 3D® and AutoCAD® Map 3D upgrade offer to Autodesk® Infrastructure Design Suite 2014 Premium and Standard, we wanted to make you aware of a change to the program. Based on your feedback we have decided to withdraw the offer to upgrade you automatically to Infrastructure Design Suite Premium or Standard and instead provide you with the option of choosing to upgrade. We believe that the Autodesk Infrastructure Design Suite is still the right solution for you but are changing the automatic upgrade offer in order to allow you the freedom to choose and make the best decision for your business.

No I got it also, now I know why. From my correspondence of a few months ago I thought I had the option to decline the automatic upgrade, it was an opt out thing.

Yes, you could go through the process to opt out, but if for some reason you did not take action, they automatically upgraded (switched) your software to a more expensive version without your consent(which is in violation of the LSA).

Per the LSA, they can offer upgrades, however they must also provide you the opportunity to accept the offer. Pretty typical with most license agreements. I don't think they ran this one by the legal dept. before proceeding.

They also charge you extra to switch back to the lower cost software if you decide the upgrade is not something you want or you find compatability issues with add-on software down the road.

We have already opted out but thanks for catching that and taking to time to notify Autocad. I did not like the idea of having to take an action to stop an unwanted upgrade but had no idea it was forbidden in the LSA. I wonder if the new LSA will be changed to allow for this. I also dislike automatic renewals on the various services I have (security system service, quickbooks, and others)so if you can do something about that I would be grateful.
