Is there an app that will enable me to use my phone to navigate with but using received NMEA strings from a survey grade receiver over bluetooth?
Using a survey grade receiver i could be receiving corrections from a VRS, and outputting a high accuracy NMEA string. So if I didn't have a data collector, is there an app that would setup the phone to receive NMEA strings and use that data to display on a map or to navigate to a point?
Sounds relatively simple to implement, but i haven't been able to find such an app after searching today.
On Android Bluetooth GPS works pretty good, I have tried a few but like it the best.
I'm not an expert, and I didn't stay at a Holiday Inn Last night, but a couple things.
? In order for GPS-enabled apps to use information from an external GPS, you will likely need to install a helper app on your Android device. This helper app runs in the background and will let apps communicate with Your GPS Device.
There are several helper apps are available, one such is"Bluetooth GPS" Which Bryce likes.
In order to let the Android device use GPS information from an external device you will have to set the following on your android device.
Settings->Applications->Development
and enable the option for "Allow mock locations"

Made for gis collection on Android,
Had a small demo last friday at the Belgian Trimble Users Day.

I have bluetooth GPS, I thought that was to enable OTHER devices (laptop, for example) to use the data from the on-board phone gps.
Bluetooth gps hands the data off to other apps, sometimes you have to turn off the phones gps to make sure the data goes where you want. It always reads pretty loose on the accuracy. I use it with a trimble 6000 xh but had to download a free trimble app to send the data to bluetooth. I also have linked to my netr5 which has a web gui to pick the bluetooth port. I have never tried to use my tsc3 and r8 with it.
