It should be in your inbox. I set it up as 864mm x 7342mm page size and then switched AutoCAD's plot scale units to mm and it plotted perfectly at a 1:1. Not sure what kind of horsepower would be required to send it to a plotter, but my I-7 with 16GB of RAM created the pdf in seconds.
I spoke too soon. :pinch:
AutoCAD was showing the preview correctly but only printing the first 34x30 to the pdf. After Johnny pointed out my failure I went back for another look.
The Adobe pdf printer that shows up in Windows when you install Acrobat has special settings for drawings larger than 200x200 inches but I could never convince AutoCAD and the Adobe pdf printer to do the job correctly. The solution was to install a PostScript Level 2 plotter under AutoCAD's Plotter manager, set it to 'plot to file', and configure it to plot the 864mm by 7342mm sheet size. When that plots, it creates an .eps file which can be run through Acrobat Distiller (choose the Oversized Pages settings and set the page size) to create the pdf file.
match line?
I'm not sure if reason for the odd layout was personal preference or regulatory. I will say that the end result is interesting. Instead of having approximately 13 pages @ 22"x34" he has one long page 34" wide and 289' long. He saves a bunch of space by only having to have one title block, legends, etc.
If Johnny will give permission, I will post a link to the pdf so everyone can see what he was trying to accomplish.
Thank you so much Stephen.
The Land Title and Survey Authority of British Columbia who are the custodian of all matters cadastral require that plans be no wider than 3 feet but under request can grant plans up to any length. Much like old Highway Plans.
Strata Plans can have individual sheets but Subdivision, Reference and Easement Plans must all be on one sheet.
The length of the plan was based on the fact that the developer was able to have narrower roads at 10.8 meters wide instead of the standard 20.117m (66 feet) or one chain width. The proviso being that if there is a cut or fill greater than 2 meters then an additional width must be applied to the road for access purposes by the municipality to retaining walls or banks above. Since the width and length of the lot is 1.5 kilometres we could only fit the scale at 1:2500 for the outline view.
Symbol sizes for Iron Posts and Lead Plugs are mandated at 2mm in width or diameter. You will note that the length of the additional width is 2.0 meters which limited are scale to 1:1000 hence the detail views and length of plan.
This was all done so the developer could create an additional lot roughly worth $1million.
Brad you will note that on the plan on the SW boundary of Lot 18 at my survey hub 4292 is where my infamous photo was taken. This was part of my 2.5 km Natural Boundary survey. Also shown on Detail of Lots 11 to 18.
Please feel free to show the final Posting Plan of the Block Outline Plan as it is part of the Public Record of Land Titles based on the Torrent System. In BC on large developments we are able to create lots based on a plan and have 1 year to complete the posting of all the lot corners including the arcs. After all the Right of Ways and Easements there is close to 1000 official survey posts in the ground. The posting took 5 years to complete as we had to wait for construction of the road to be complete. The avoids the survey posts from being damaged and preserves the longevity of the monument.
I would personally like to thank Stephen for his help and for Surveyor Connect.
Here is the link to the development http://www.thecapeonbowen.ca/

Johnny Franko
Stephen you should also post your solution. You must have been a programmer in you previous life. I doubt we will ever have to do another plan of such length but ya never know...

Cool bro.
For those who want to see what the resulting pdf looked like, here's a link: 34" x 289" pdf (it's 7.02mb)
For those who want to know how I did it, see post [msg]294288[/msg] above for the short version of the steps required.
How do you install a Level 2 Post Script printer?

Be sure to click 'Plot to File'

Give it a name or leave the default

You can Edit Plotter Configuration here if you need to setup a custom sheet size or just hit Finish and tweak the settings later when you're ready to print.
