It saddens me to pass on the news that "Hugh died peacefully on Monday 30 January with Glenys next to him and is now at peace."

If any one would like Gleny's contact email address, please email me.

I first met Hugh at surveyors conference in Adelaide, when catching up with John Brock., Both being POB contributors when he was the NZ president of their surveying body and was fortunate to meet up with him in Sydney at FIG conference, where a number of US surveying delegates met him at our Phillips Foote gathering.

Hugh was a passionate surveyor who was struck down by prostate cancer.

So fellow surveyors please have a check up ! Especially you young bucks as early detection can be cured.

RIP Hugh !

He was definitely one of the good ones.

He's probably already swapping survey stories in Heaven with Bill McComber and many others from this board and the earlier one.

sad news indeed. Just this past weekend my wife and I went thru a package of New Zealand maps and travel information Hugh sent us a few years back. I had posted on POB that we were looking into a trip down to NZ, and without being asked, Hugh sent a very inclusive package of maps, travel books, calendars, and a personal itinery he wrote up for us to travel both islands. We have saved this info as we still want to do this trip one day. Hugh had emailed periodically to ask what our travel plans were, and now that we're looking again at the possibilities, it's sad to know that there's one less home awaiting our arrival. RIP Hugh, a kind and generous man.

Rest in Peace, Hugh.

Please heed Richards advice. Get a check-up. Early treatment is essential.
