Gordon Lightfoots tribute.

"Does anyone know where the love of God goes,
when the waves turn the minutes to hours?

The hair on my arms still tingles when I hear this song.

I've heard him sing it in concert...twice. 🙂

Horrible tragedy. Love that song though.

At that time I was attending Mich Tech and I was living in a rental cabin on the shore of Portage Lake, which is in the middle of the Keweenaw Penninsula, which sticks up into Lake Superior. There is a canal connecting the open water to Keweenaw Bay.

Periodically, the freight boats would pass through, kind of as a shortcut so they didn't have to go all the way around the point near Copper Harbor. During this storm, there were about 5 freighters just "riding the storm out" for a day or so. At the time I thought it was odd, until I read about the Edmund Fitzgerald. I do know that it was one heck of a storm, but not that unusual that time of year for us folks on land.

I know I took a polaroid picture of them, but it is buried somewhere in my highly unorganized photo collection box. Maybe this weekend I'll dig it out.
