My Brethren, we have lost a good one. My friend and fellow surveyor Sidney Fournet passed away this morning. He was surrounded by his wife and children. I had great respect for Sid as a man and surveyor. I worked with him and his wife Leonelle at Borgen Engineering in Slidell, LA back in the late '70s. When the mid '80s recession hit we all ended up at the same engineering firm in Absecon, NJ. After we were able to come back from NJ, they ended up in Diamondhead, MS where he kept it small and simple doing all the field work and calculations himself with Leonelle doing the drafting. If I needed some advice or needed to get another surveyor's opinion on something, Sid was one of my go-to guys. Rest In Peace, my friend.
(Now I will meddle just a bit- if you smoke, please do your best to quit. My number one party chief is also fighting lung cancer)
I have lost friends and mentors to the affects of smoking. 🙁
Sidney was a friend of mine too. All the things Alan said are so very true. Surveyors will follow his work for a long time, and the ones that never knew him will say "Hey this guy did pretty darn good Work!"
