If you follow the reality capture scene at all you've probably heard about and seen the new NavVis MLX. And if you're like me, you've probably been waiting for a unbiased analysis into a dataset from this scanner. If so, check out my latest video...

Nice video, very informative, especially for those of us who don't offer scanning services but want to stay abreast of what's out there so we know how best to advise our clients.

Great video thanks for sharing. I do many building measurement surveys and use a Trimble X7. I can definitely see how the Navis would be very useful.

With regards to verifying against wall lengths, I see differences in building wall lengths of 10-20mm depending on the height of measurement. Did you check at the same height each time?

Are structured point clouds possible at all with the Navis? I presume not.

What format does Navis return the scan data in?

Also just wondering about combining the data from two different scanners. When I bring third party e57 data into Trimble TBC I can't get good cloud to cloud alignment. Do you see any issues combining the Navis data with rtc data in cyclone?

Sorry for all the questions!

We have the VLX II and like it a lot. The data is processed online in NavVis IVION. I tried to login to my account and get some screenshots of things to answer some questions, but I seem to be having some issues. A NavVis rep just stopped by our office a few weeks ago to demo the MLX. It appears to be quite promising for those tight areas. We will probably get one when the need arises.

Yes I digitized the walls at the same height +/- half a foot or so depending on scan shadowing in a particular dataset. The walls were measured in the same place as well.

Since it's mobile data, I don't see that being possible.

You have several export options (LAS,RCP,E57)

We do this with register360 and it's been fairly effective.

Sorry for all the questions!
