Photogrammetric and Remote Sensing Task Force Assembled
With the rise in unmanned aircraft systems (UAS or drones) and other evolving technologies affecting the land surveying profession, the Board has assembled a Photogrammetric and Remote Sensing Task Force (PRSTF) to focus on educating professionals and hobbyists about the regulated photogrammetry profession.
Chris Aldridge, RPP, has been appointed task force Chair, and Board members Ron Singh, PLS, and Logan Miles, PLS, are members of the PRSTF. The task force held initial meetings in the fall of 2016 to establish task force priorities and identify areas of opportunity for education.
The PRSTF identified the need to develop outreach materials to educate UAS owners about State regulations, professional licensure requirements, and what constitutes professional photo and mapping services as it relates to OSBEELS.
With the emergence of new UAS technologies, many individuals could be unintentionally engaging in unlicensed photogrammetric mapping and land surveying.
As a result of remote pilot certification programs being administered by the Federal Aviation Administration, UAS owners may be unaware that these certifications do not constitute the authority to practice professional land surveying or photogrammetric mapping in the State of Oregon.
The PRSTF is excited about the opportunity to promote awareness in the UAS community and help ensure the public receives safe and authorized services from appropriately licensed professionals.
As licensed professionals, the PRSTF encourages all surveyors and photogrammetrists to become educated about current regulations if they are utilizing UAS to provide services.
Thanks for posting! That is the first step in saving the professional task. Not much hope though. Remember machine control, GIS..... Sorry for being a downer, Jp
