Our company is currently in the process of purchasing a new drone as our current one is malfunctioning. We received a quote from one of our software reps and it included the DJI Base station. However, we have numerous Topcon Base/Rover setups and I was curious if it is possible to use the RTK drone with a 3rd party base station like we have. If not, what advantage is the RTK to us without it being connected to something that provides corrections??ÿ

We currently use a P4Pv2 for all our aerial mapping and I go out and place GCP's around the job site with my base/rover, and then process the data in Pix4dmapper. Assuming we just bought the drone itself with the RTK module, would we be gaining any accuracy??ÿ

Thanks,
With the RTK you can do away with GCPs. You can process quicker. You can be accurate autonomously or you can enter a precise lat long and ellipsoid height for the base and have RTK accuracy. You will need a base that is capable of NTRIP broadcasting. Some Trimble units are capable some not. I'm not sure about Topcon. You'll want to make sure the format of the correction being broadcast is compatible with both the drone and the base. I have very limited knowledge. If someone contradicts what I've said I would believe them instead.
Any way you can run PPK and sidestep the communications link? It's tighter than RTK anyways (assuming you are able to log at better than 1Hz at both base & sUAS platform), and doesn't restrict you to running a particular type of base. Way more flexible IMO...
Topcon Hiper HR has wifi and NTRIP caster that works with DJI M3E.
