An associate surveyor I work with somewhat and co own some equipment has got a commercial drone. I could use the capability on some projects. There is a one day course at our UCLS conference this week to help prepare for the test. Then the test is $180 and renews every two years.
For those that already done this, how hard is the test? How much prep and study will it take to pass?
The test is not terribly difficult. It requires an entry level understanding of basic regulations, weather and chart reading. A one day course might get you there if you pay attention.
I used remotepilot101. It's a good deal because you can review any time you want. You should also sign up for the free faa webinars as well. Drone flight isn't very complex but there are rules. Things change and it's a good idea to see what's out there every once in a while..?ÿ
I took five of those FAA multiple choice knowledge exams, they are pretty easy to pass. Get the book and memorize the correct answers.
the Flight Instructor oral exam was harder then the LS.
I just took it last week... I didnt' want to pay for a course and instead used Tony Northrup's video. If you Google his name it should take you to his website. Between his video, practice tests, additional information he provides via links as well as just watching some YouTube videos on "hard or tricky FAA Part 107 Questions", I passed on the first go around. The practice tests I took were a good overview of how the test is formatted, however, there were different questions on the actual test. I think I studied a total of 6-8 hours and passed with an 83%.
