Dozer pushed out another surveyor's rebar and cap. I now possess the rebar and cap. What should I do with it?
Maybe drive it in the mayor's yard, and flag it with "Property Line" flagging?
Maybe find an old client, that failed to pay their bill, make a hole with a post hole digger, and bury it 10' from the real property line, in concrete?
Maybe there should be some etiquette for what we do with these. I have several accumulated through the years. Maybe donate them to cranky old farmers, who mark their own lines?
Maybe leave them down at the courthouse, for folks to USE and place them where THEY want them?
I am just needing a little help here!
🙂
Nate
I guess if the Surveyor is still around you should offer to give it back to him.
I have a 2"x18" pipe with Spink tag cemented into it that I found lying in a ditch. He is long deceased so it is still in my garage.
I pulled a 2" nail (very rusted) with brass tag (George Rau) out of a 2" pipe so I could cement a brass cap in it (the wood plug was badly decayed so I improved the monument). I was tempted to drive it into a nearby BT but chose not to (the BT used to have his tag in it but now missing, another nearby still has his tag).
LOL Is it a low baller? I usually just leave them in the debris pile.

I say chuck it (unwitnessed of course) through the window of a police car, that way the police know who to look for by the cap number... B-)
Or, you could take all those miscellaneous rods with caps you have and build a retaining wall on your property line. Be sure to use the rods as wall underpins.
I often reuse bars and pipes that I find torn out. I remove the other surveyors identification and toss it in the truck with the rest of my iron.
Yup!
Nate, put it in the truck and save it for that time when you say to yourself "it would have been really nice to find something right about HERE";-)
We keep coffee cans in trucks with old caps from other surveyors....they're even separated into "friend" and "foe" cans...:snarky:
Joe, that's funny!
There, now, that is RECYCLING put to a GOOD use!
he he he.
Let me see.... right about HERE!

Joe, that's funny!
I worked with a guy that would always find some old rusty rebar. No matter who looked how hard, he'd go back and find one. We used to joke he had a bucket of salt water filled with rebars, to be placed when needed lol.
i once jumped into the poison ivy filled woods and found a Peter Soule bound. back on the road, with the rodman, heading to look for the next monument, he asked what i found and i started singing Soul Man modified to I found a Soule Bound. Coming up behind was a young lady on a bicycle who started laughing and almost fell over. i am not a good singer.
Friend or Foe

Good one. :good:
I even considered making a pile in the corner of the office, so that when I have visitors, (other surveyors) they could get their mons back. You know, tag them, and put down a few words, as to where they came from. Naw... to organized!
