Hey everyone, I have this invasive vine that has been growing at my house or several years. It has been manageable up until this year, and it is going crazy. It is taking over my azalea bushes, and I am afraid I will have to pull out everything and start over. The azalea bushes are close to 18 years old, and we transplanted them from the previous house when we moved.
Here are two pictures. The vines have very fine thorns or whatever you want to call them, and they will stick you through just about any type of glove you wear. I want to kill them, yesterday. They are growing up behind and inside of the azalea bushes, and I cannot get to the roots to clip them.
Thanks in advance!

Thanks. I don't know how I'll get it out of the azalea bushes. The azaleas are pretty big and thick, and this mess is all entwined and between the bushes and the house.
Get some Goat skin Gloves...
And a shovel; dig up all the roots around your Azaleas; Round-Up for the rest.
I wouldn't be digging up 18 year old azaleas.
If you can clip the vines near the ground, carefully paint the stubs with full strength glyphosate mixed with a bit of dish detergent.?ÿ The vines will probably be easier to remove after they die & dry out.

I don't think that's Virginia Creeper.?ÿ Virginia Creeper doesn't have thorns.

It's called Bushkiller and is listed on page 37 of the pdf in the link above.
Clipping as close to ground and selective poison, burn or destroy origin any way possible.

I am not seeing any reference to Bushkiller having thorns.
Roundup is a systemic, which means that if you get it on some of the leaves it will spread throughout the plant, including the roots. If you can only get it on a few leaves it's going to work slowly and probably require several applications, but in time it will work.?ÿ If nothing else you can apply it with a sponge.
Thanks Everyone. I bought the wife and I some goatskin gloves, and we'll be pulling and trimming some in the next week or two as weather allows. I've got to get them under control. They are climbing the porch, and encroaching onto the front porch, and this year, they really seem to be worse than previous years. I plan on a combination of all of these methods.
Have a great week!

Looks like a blackberry vine to me.
