?ÿ

I read this book a thousand years ago it seems.?ÿ The three things that drew my interest at that time were the facts Thoreau was a surveyor, he sustained himself in a natural environment for a time apart from society, and the hint in the text of "civil disobedience".?ÿ And reading as a young man I wasn't disappointed.

I recently reread the book as an old man.?ÿ It's probably the one of the only books I've reread at such a span.?ÿ I was amazed at the different opinions I drew from the two readings so many years apart.?ÿ Opinions about his reasoning for his quest, about writing the book and even his possible divergent attitude at the time about society.

I won't bore you with my opinions for well known reasons...but I do look forward to reading it again 50 years from now to see if I determine yet another 'angle' on our fellow surveyor of old.?ÿ ;)?ÿ?ÿ

I would suggest reading this one too. I found it to be a very good read, especially since I too survey for society, and for a living.
