Some people think it is "elitist" and "bourgeois" to expect correct spelling and grammar.
Everybody makes mistakes, but people ought to at least try. Problem is, no one reads books anymore.
I see "loose" used for "lose" a lot today.
Around my office, everyone pronounces the autocad command "fillet" as "filet".

these days with these gadgets I'm just typing away and hitting send with minimal review of the message...some words end up being way whacked out...but shoot....the other guy, the recipient is saying ha ha...apple guy...
...a lot of misspelling these days is computer generated or perhaps a cultural shift in how we type and transcribe ....can you understand it is what is the key.... its a language unto its own....

I agree. Some things are just too irritating. I have had resumes sent to me that are full of spelling and grammatical errors. I wouldn't want these guys writing a legal description for me.
Just this week I emailed Dell asking a couple of questions about one of their products. After reading the reply, I was a bit turned off with Dell. Not because of the answer per se but because I wonder about the quality of a product that has people representing them in sales that can't write. Dell could make all of the excuses they want, but if they chase customers away, they have a problem.

The battery for the Streak 7 has a inbuilt battery.You can buy a spare battery but it cannnot be charged off the phone but yes you can replace the battery once the existimg battery goes down.(aside....could they squeeze a few more words in that sentence? commas?)The battery for this unit has not been desinged to give the charge off from the tablet. The memory for the Streak 7 can expandable upto 32gb.The Streak comes with the built in memory of 16gb.

Looks like another case of outsourcing customer service. Several of the mistakes toward the end remind me of communicating with clients for whom English is their second language.

This is sad simply because the majority of the mistakes could have been handled by a spell check.
This thread reminds me of one of my questions from the LSIT exam years ago. The question went something like this:
Please fill in the blank spaces with the correct word configuration:
"________ going to place ________ instrument over ________ upon that ridge."
A. Their there they're
B. They're their there
C. There they're their
D. None of the Above
Granted there are some typos; but a lot of the "errors" look to me to be more a case of idiomatic South East Asian or Indian English, rather than sloppy American English.
For example "can expandable upto" - upto is pretty common usage in India, and native Bengali speakers leave the verb "to be" out of sentences.
The talk of language, it's use and how it classifies people reminds me of Shaw's Pygmalion.
