Not what you were expecting...That's a California Jack Rabbit, then a Mountain Quail, then an American Mourning Dove.
You will rarely see them drinking water at the same time.

This little guy is cooling off.

Your not mine...

It's a popular spot right now. 105?øF today progressing up to 109?øF
The little ones and the nursing mom's sure need the water in this heat.

I'm going to move it to a spot where I I can catch a snake or two. Figure I might catch a rattler.

This little fox didn't stay long. Just a sip.

Have to wonder who is doing the ear biting? I have notices lots of deer have damage to their ears. I wonder if it is from the brush or other deer (maybe a buck)?

I periodically bleach and flush the water so the critters don't get disease from using a common water source.

I've noticed some ear notches on whitetails here in Oklahoma. I think it's probably a trending kind of thing....although I haven't seen any nose piercing or ink on any of the larger bucks. 😉

Do you truck the water in for them or are you tapping a spring.

Just leave the faucet dripping. Doesn't take much water to keep it full.

Most people do not think about providing for wildlife.

Not me! Would like to see how many and where. I have a known den that is near where I water trees every day. There are skin sheds and skeletons laying around...figure I just might catch a video of a rattler coming or going.

The trail cam isn't for hunting - just for fun.

I hate snakes.

They are building a skate board park up the canyon and killed this one:

It looks thirsty to me.

That's a healthy snake, but the photo is a classic snake pose. The guy needed to turn slightly to the right to perfect the illusion.

The best way to handle a huge snake like that one pictured is to get the giant girl who terrorized Paris to kill it for you

The rake gives us some sense of scale, and tends to defeat the illusion. He should have used a pole if he wanted to make the perspective less obvious.

I prefer the pictures with the scale system installed.

My wife has been at it again.

I loved "Fat Broad" and her perennial fight with the snake in Johnny Hart's old comic strip "B.C." The underlying themes and humor of women's battles with "temptation and evil" epitomized by the snake were worthy of a literary award. The humor was always in the fact the snake was most assuredly a male (it never says) and most male readers felt a connection with the poor smashed up snake. Kinda like Lucy and the football to an exponential level. 😉
