Does anyone know how to remove the sponsored email/add in yahoo mail?
You can't delete it or anything. Is it some kind of virus?

That depends on your definition of "virus."

Technically, it's a new "feature" of Marissa Mayer's recent Yahoo mail update. And you're correct. You can't delete it and you can't disable it.

Check out Yahoo's New Mail Fail group on Facebook to learn about other wonderful "features" of the new Yahoo mail and commiserate with other peeved users.

I might suggest downloading Firefox or a derivative. Then, under addons, install adblock. I'm thinking most, if not all ads will promptly be a thing of the past on yahoo.

A similar task can also be accomplished if one is downloading mail to one's computer by using Thunderbird and once again, downloading the addblock addon.

Edit for additional information: consider adblock plus as one addon. Also consider element hiding addon. I believe these addons are also available for google chrome.

You have to install an add-on to get rid of the add-ons:'( :-S :'(

Sounds more confusing than it actually is (at least the way I attempted to describe it). Adblock blocks particular things (ads), element hiding performs extended ad blocking.

Suffice to say, web pages are much, much cleaner and much, much less distracting (to me) without ads that scroll, blink, flash, etc.
