The father of a young man who works for me from time to time has had the following experience on more than one occasion because he has three teenage sons who all have laptops.

I had a near miss many years ago....in the flesh. I was simply sitting around the house all alone watching TV one evening when three 17 year-old girls came bouncing through the door searching for my youngest daughter. Fortunately, I was wearing a pair of white flannel-type shorts with a big image of Joe Camel on one side but no shirt. Their first impression was that they had walked in on me wearing nothing but tighty-whiteys. There were plenty of red faces instantly. They always knocked long and hard after that. No more just walking in like they owned the place.

At my age I have seen a vast spectrum of technology. My grandparents never had a driver's license; they were just too old by the time automobiles became common and reliable. They also never had a tv in their house. My grandfather would listen to the farm report on the early morning AM radio. I guess that's all the technology he needed.

My mother's brothers were all farm folks. We use to have Thanksgiving at Uncle Jasper's place near Davis, OK. Only one wall in the kitchen had electricity. The wiring was on the outside of the wall. And the "restroom" was a two-holer out near the garden. All of my family from the generation previous to mine "hollered" when talking on the "telly-phone", including my folks. Now my 75 year old sister does it too...

Things have changed indeed. My grandsons, 6 and 9, have their own tablets and are "wired" to stay with the herd with which they will eventually run. I suppose that is how it should be. They are fascinated by my old flip-phone...which by the way, is older than both of them.

And way too fast as well. A tachometer held on to the stering column with a hose clamp was the electronic marvel of my time. Today two of my Grandchildren ages 3 and 5 each have android tablets. They only play games and some educational stuff but at their age one can only wonder what lies in store for the future.

When my Grandson was 3; we had just gotten a brand new flat screen TV. He walks in; picks up the remote and is watching what HE wants to watch on Netflicks; inside of 2 minutes!

I didn't even know we had Netflicks!

Well, it depends upon what kind of "flicks" one is watching. 😀
