@larry-best

I think there already is, but only to NZ and Aussie nationals, and there is a mandatory, enforced quarantine of 14 days at each side, which is putting people off.

I read somewhere that NZ considers trans Tasman travel as "domestic", including travel to some SW Pacific nations.

In Fiji, which wants to be part of the NZ-Aussie deal, there is currently a 28 day mandatory quarantine for anyone entering the country, however I hear that it likely that today, Fiji will declare itself Covid-19-free.

@just-a-surveyor

I was going to say, the price to get in will go up, but maybe with the economy and all, the price will go down.

I would stay here in Oregon but just not here in the Portland area. Maybe the banana belt (Brookings)

Costa Rica

Friend was all set to move in December but ...

If the New Normal here is going to be 2k Covid deaths per day, then this isn't really 'great'.

Costa Rica out performed NZ in handling the virus. Enough ex-pats have been there for decades. Perfect climate.?ÿ?ÿ

In the pre Covid non apocalyptic world, you could have probably set up a channel, vlog and some lute music, and got the crowd to fund your move(s). Maybe you still can.

The legal system in other countries may not resemble ours.  My son-in-law was paid by the murdered girl's mother to serve as the primary interpreter to assist those from the US in comprehending what everyone else was saying.  He made several trips working on this.  He swore he would never travel there again based on what he witnessed relative to the law enforcement and courtroom practices there.

Ok, “British Rule”/ “European Union”. Plus you must have substantial wealth and owned real estate to even be considered for entry.

There’s no Boat Works on St. Thomas?

”But then how will I get it back in November?”

All things considered, I’d try to hire those dudes on TV that steal back (repo) airplanes and boats.

NHC says this years gonna be nasty.

ps the55c is a fantasy but they are nice, a developer friend has one.

Ahem. "If a boat looks good, it probably goes good". That one does look good.

@loyal my favorite Fred Neil cover.

I was at this recording at the Filmore East back back back when.

Airplane would begin their shows with it.

I didn't know Alaska was a country? It's big enough to be one. I know, it your context, it implied to be in the US because you named specific regions or states. Just struck me funny.

Sounds like a tough place to be stable as a surveyor, or maybe in general? I thought California was expensive. Well, it is, but I didn't know NZ is right there with us.

@holy-cow never considered it naughty. Meaning not nice.

Just life. I was running streets of NYC as a sixteen year old back then. So everything on the celluloid at your drive-in was a reality in my world. Places, characters etc.

Had a very close friend from a very talented family who had a cousin that had a small role. Photographer. For Viva in the Party scene. So she was excited to spot him. Understood the film. Hard reality.disparate buddy film. One pulls for Ratso but you know the outcome.

Very poignant story. . great tune.

Naughty..I dunno.

Having visited eNZed a couple times, I can attest to its physical beauty and the friendliness of its people. That said, its remoteness has captured the imagination of many seeking to escape the coming apocalypse. There was an interesting NPR segment on this issue here: https://www.npr.org/2020/04/22/840906009/author-tours-the-end-of-the-world-from-prairie-bunkers-to-apocalypse-mansions

Unfortunately the influx of wealthy foreigners (I am a US citizen) has driven housing prices up. I considered moving there after retirement but due to family and other considerations never pursued that path.?ÿ

My last trip was a full month with visits to both islands.I guess my favorite spots were Wellington, Dunedin and Christchurch. While in Dunedin I met with faculty members in the Otago University Surveying Program. Lots of good work is being done there. They have a rigorous problem.?ÿ

I wonder how easily a US surveying credential/license would transfer to a NZ license??ÿ

As Mr. Cox notes, NZ is not a little USA. There are significant cultural differences. I developed a real appreciation for rugby while there (during the Ranfurly Shield competition). I remain, however, a support of Les Bleus!

When planning a visit I would certainly consider Air NZ over alternatives. It is one of my favorite airlines.

That was the time when to get the "X" rating it had to be quite different from standard films.  Most assumed X-rated movies were nothing but sex, sex and more sex.  Having it shown in the open air of a drive-in was odd, especially as people driving by on the highway could see the screen quite well.  There was one cinema up into the early 80's that would only run X or NC-17 movies at midnight on Saturday night.

@stlsurveyor me too. They do have good coffee. I don't know anything about the justice system but the justice system in my neck of the woods here has had seriousy corruption in the recent past few years.

I expect it would NOT transfer at all.

You would need to register here - starting with getting our board to accept your four year degree.

As far as I am aware no US courses have been accepted. One of my colleagues is a German national, he had some difficulty getting his five year academic qualification allowed.

Then you would need the experience with our survey systems - Metric units, Torrens title, recording and all.

There is a reciprocity agreement with Australia - an Aussie license can be accepted here and vice-versa - but it is not automatic.

PS: please don't call me Sir or Mister - I work for my living...

Great song, and a great cover version.
