From Kentucky heading to see my brother retire from the Air Force and see his oldest son graduate. Anything that is a must see our do?
Check out the "Santa Claus House" (especially if you have small children or grand-children).
You can take the Steese Expressway from Fairbanks north about 10 miles, and on the right side of the road is a pull-out where there is a pipeline viewing area. There are some informational signs about the pipeline, and it is kind of neat to see the TAPS pipeline in person. About two more miles north is the junction at Fox. There are some cool old dredges from the gold rush era to explore, and in this area is the Turtle Club ( 2098 Old Steese Hwy N, Fairbanks, AK 99712 ). Best food to be had in the area. Go for the prime rib.
Don't break the speed limit driving through North Pole. Cops there are ticket happy. If you get into Fairbanks, Pike's Landing is a fun place to hang out and have a meal next to the Chena River flowing through town. Chena Hot Springs is worth checking out if you have the time. Hopefully the place won't be as smoky as it is around here right now with all the wild fires we have burning. They get a lot of fires burning in the interior in the summer months and the air can get pretty smoky.
I surveyed in that tank trail accessing that remote rec area your talking about back in my DNR days. Pretty good chance I tied in some of your corners.
