Dryer broke. Simple problem. The Pulley on the motor shaft came apart. It is made WAY too cheap. Pot metal. It has 4 little grooves in it, and screws on CCW threads. The threads are FINE. BUT Maytag won't sell me the PULLEY alone. they want to sell me the whole motor, with pulley, for $150.
Got sick this morning. Hurtin from head to toe. Flue.
Wife is medicating me. Kids have it too. I'm worse off than they are, I think.
Say a prayer for me, and that I remain diplomatic with Maytag. It is a mere $5.00 part, for 150. SCAM!

PS it is ok to kick me when you walk by!
Check with some laundrymat owners/managers, they have a few parts lying around somewhere. I've bought from the local before when they were replacing machines.
Do an EBAY search for "maytag dryer pulley" and check at the bottom of the page for similar parts
get well soon....
Here you go Nate..thirty bucks and some change..
Kick, kick, kick, kick, kick
Thanks. That was fun.
Kick, kick, kick, kick, kick
You could always put a larger pulley on and watch that baby really spin. 😛
Kick, kick, kick, kick, kick
I am sorry but I cannot resist this.
But does this sound at all like the oft-maligned, "But I really only need one line..., I don't need to whole property surveyed"?
I'll echo other comments- check with any local appliance repair shop, they'll likely need the model number but they can get just the pulley- or perhaps even a better one from a similar-size motor, as a lot of the parts are interchangeable- not just from Maytag machines, either as Maytag is now owned/made by Whirlpool- (Whirlpool also makes Maytag, Amana, Jenn-Air, KitchenAid, about half of the Sears/ Kenmore line and a few others)
You can also check online- almost all parts are available directly online. You do NOT have to buy the whole motor. And, the only parts that might have to be ordered from a Maytag dealer might be for newer models with electronic controls with the all-in-one electronic circuit boards- once the appliance is out of production, there aren't any more circuit boards produced - the actual dealers might have limited access to the remaining parts from the production run of circuit cards.
The washing machine was acting up.
I didn't know what to do (seemed to be intermittent electronic problem).
So I googled around. Probably the control unit. They cost 50 bucks or something like that.
So I took it out, blew into everywhere I could with compressed air, cleaned up inside the area it came out of, put it back in and it has been working ever since. That was a couple of years ago.
I am generally a terrible mechanic.
I think machines have feelings, it was feeling neglected.
Nate, Nate Nate.....
The easiest way to resolve that problem is simply buy a new one.
As for the flu, I've always felt better after drinking a bottle or two of Southern Comfort.
Hope Y'all git over it quick! :'(
Actually what may have helped ....
was just taking it out and putting it back in. Could have been an electrical contact with a little corrosion on it and the act of unplugging and plugging in may have cleaned up an intermittent contact. The general cleaning certainly didn't hurt either.
What make and model? We have some rental houses and somehow I have accumulated several dryers in the warehouse waiting for me to carry them to scrap. If I got one on a scrap unit, you can have it for the cost of postage.
INFO
This is what the pullery looks like... pretty close anyway.
It is a 4 groove pulley.
Here is what it sort of looks like. (I have the broken parts of the old one)

Mine is:
Maytag Model No. SDE4606AYW

Thanks for the kick, whoever you were. I am real stoved up.
Had to come by to see if anybody kicked me.
Thanks allll...
Nate
It's called a four groove sheave. I've never seen one like that and it's probably a single run item specific to that manufacture.
If you haven't done this yet...Don't..
The comments section is great, that oughta' cheer you up. 😀
I'm doin better
OK, an update. I am weak, but better. MANY folks were in the hospital with this crud.
I was sicker than 2 dogs. Barfing dogs. I wound up taking high doses of garlic oil, and it really does help, but GAWD it makes you stay up all night. I wound up driving to Memphis, actually about an hr east of Memphis, and picking up another buddy, who was broke down on the road. It wore me out.
We put up a clothes line, and the kids are having fun.... novelty etc. While I get the Maytag going. (They think it is fun!)
I still milk 2x a day, and that about uses all my energy. We have had some really good Bible studies, and a refocus on the God who Made all of us in the world.
I am back at about 35-40% strength now.
I am doubly in love with the wife. She is a trouper.
I am so blown away.... my kids are more ready for life at an early age than I was.
