Seen on a local FB group:
"I need someone to put up some fence for me. We have all the supplies just need someone to put it up. Will only take a couple hours. We will pay! Send me a message"
I guess we're not the only ones who efforts are underestimated and undervalued.
An my brother-in-law, has flagging he surveyed it with...mmm hmm
We will pay!
That;s encouraging.
@rj-schneider Yeah, but it's a red herring.?ÿ Just like many of our clients I'm betting they'll be horrified by by the actual time it will take and the true cost.
Every time a potential client tells me how simple and easy a job will be they're always taken aback when I explain what is really required and what the cost will be.
I know someone who just got a house and payed $250 for a survey.?ÿ It was his daughter
but he does surveying (not licensed).?ÿ He said they never even flagged the corners.?ÿ Couldn't see any
signs that they were even on site.?ÿ I had my place surveyed in '02 and payed $750 and
didn't complain - they did a good job.?ÿ You get what you pay for.....
but he does surveying (not licensed).?ÿ He said they never even flagged the corners.?ÿ?ÿ
That's not surveying. That's called fraud.
Just sayin....
If you pay $250 for a "survey" you deserve a little fraud.
psssh... couple hours for a fence?? Go out there and dig two post holes, set the posts in concrete, plumb, then put the fence panel up between them. How long did that take you? Now how many panels do you have? People have funny ideas of time.?ÿ
I'm willing to bet that wherever they want the fence is right over where the old one was, so you'll have a 30yo concrete foundation every spot you drop that post-hole digger.
It was this exact attitude that kept me from hanging out my shingle and taking on private sector work.?ÿ
I agree to only charge for 2 hours at $3000/hr.
Potential client (a city) was told by a Surveyor they could fix the townsite survey issues by "locating a few points to go from in the future". My quick look says base service starts at 30k plus, likely at least double.
No wonder they think we are incompetent hired guns...
OMG!?ÿ There are still fools running around who honestly believe that all surveys of record are wrong if one does not return to the original corners of whatever the original plat indicates.?ÿ You know, those plats that were drawn on paper with magic numbers and everything square such that the subdivision of a quarter-quarter of a section is precisely 1320 feet by 1320 feet and square.
We have a town not far from here where a full quarter section of land in the middle of town had two or three small subdivisions in it.?ÿ Everything else is described as Beginning at the Southeast Corner of said Quarter Section, thence North 842 feet along the East Section line and 419 feet West thereof to the True Point of Beginning of a tract described as: (OMG)?ÿ Or, everything begins at the northeast corner of the same quarter section, then south and west to the TPOB of a tract.?ÿ Unbelievable screw ups have occurred for over a century in drawing out where such tracts are located.?ÿ Then Mr. Surveyor Extraordinaire arrives on the scene, ignores all prior survey plats on file in the Courthouse, finds the four corners of the quarter section and BAMM the job is done.
BAMM the job is done
